Ann's Story
Life
Dec. 2008 (Update)
Here's my story . . . My husband, Jim, and I moved to Georgia in 1973 - about a year and a half after we got married. He had worked in the steel mill after returning home from Vietnam, then went to a/c school. We realized the south is a good place to be for work like that. I was a stay-at-home Mom to our eventual five kids - four girls, then finally (!) a boy. Melissa works for GE; Jessica works for a pharmacy software company; Rebecca is a supervisor with DFCS (Department of Family and Children's Services in Georgia. Think they call it something else in Pa.); Elizabeth has two children (13 mos. apart!) and is a stay at home Mom; Tim took a two year break from college and is now enrolled for Jan to finally (!) get his degree. They are currently 23 - 35 years old.
Once the youngest was in school, I began to get involved in the fitness industry - aerobics instructor, strength trainer, then finally, personal trainer. I loved it. Guess I did that for about ten or twelve years. Once I hit 50 years old, I kinda lost interest. (I mean, really, how much demand do you think there is for a 50 year old grandmother to be your personal trainer!?) Things started to heat up with the kids - colleges to chose, high school and college graduations, engagements, wedding plans, grandkids. Not necessarily in that order! We have seven grandchildren now - Aspen, Riah and Cade belong to our oldest daughter; Ryder is our second daughter's son. Rebecca, our third daughter, was married in Nov. 2007. She had a destination wedding in Cancun, Mexico and it was awesome! (If the first kid to be married would have had a destination wedding - t...Expand for more
hey all would have!! It was the easiest wedding we've planned.) Anyway, Becky just found out last week she's expecting their first this August. Our fourth daughter Elizabeth got married in Feb. 2006 and had her first child, Keegan, followed 13 mos. later by a little girl, Emery. The family is growing so fast. The only one left to marry off is Tim - and all we have to do for that is the rehearsal dinner!! Yea!
We have a ball with all the grandbabies and can't wait 'til Becky and Andy have the newest.
We travel with Jim's company - sales incentive trips - and have been to places we thought we'd only dream of! We've seen Greece and the Greek Islands, Turkey, Spain, Australia and New Zealand. We've also been on several cruises - eastern and western Carribean. That part of the job came at the right time of our lives - when our kids were older and could pretty much take care of themselves while we were gone. We celebrated our 37th anniversary last November and are still going strong. We get to Pittsburgh only occasionally now - Jim's parents have both passed and we don't have much family left up there. Mine is all down here in Georgia.
I have thoroughly enjoyed these later years, the grandkids and the easier lifestyle. I laugh out loud when I talk to our oldest daughter who does nothing but run the kids around. Did that, got that t-shirt! Now, Jim and I pretty much do what we want, when we want. Jim's thinking of retiring at 62 - only four more years!
I guess that's my life story in 4,000 words or less.
If anyone knows how I can get in touch with Gail Rudaitis (married name, Timmens), let me know. I've been trying to find her for years!
