Ann's Story
I was born in Pyote, Texas in 1944. Moved to Kansas when I was four and came back when I was ten. I lived there till I graduated and then moved to New Mexico. Pyote was good to me. I met my best friend there and to this day we are still best friends..53 years. I was so nieve then..just thought life in Pyote was what life was supposed to be. I didn't have much of a homelife. I guess it would be considered disfunctional in today's world. Paula's family made me theirs as did the rest of my friends mom's and I happily went along. I now look back and thank God for Pyote..my friends and their families. The values and the situations that I lived thru during that time gave the strength and determination to go thru what I've had to all these years. I married my first husband in 1965..moving to Arizona and Colorado..had one child and three(born in my heart) childern. My husband was an abusive alcoholic and I finally managed to leave the marriage after 15 yrs. I moved to Farmington, NM where Paula lived and met my now hus...Expand for more
band, Bill, who was a coach and teacher. We were married and when he retired we moved to his hometown of Amarillo, Texas. We had planned to travel and enjoy the country...but unfortunately Bill was diagnosed with Alzheimers five years ago and we have been adjusting to life with Alzheimers. I do not recommend it to my worst enemy. During the last twenty years I have also been reconnected with my Dad's side of the family and have discovered I have eight half brothers and sisters. That has been a great joy to me and we try to get together as much as possible and keep in touch. My three girls and my son have been another source of joy for me. I have four grand children and three great-grand children.
Pyote will always hold memories for me. It was a special place with special people and good friends. I was one of the white trash kids in those days...but I never felt that way. Every one took care of me and somehow I made it. There aren't too many Pyotes left in this world and I feel sad for the ones who missed out.
