Anna's Story
Life
I'm okay with where I'm at in life but still hoping for changes. I didn't go to college and I, sometimes, regret that, however, I'm doing very well and for the most part I'm happy. I haven't done anything major and do not plan to! I have 3 children- Matthew 19, Danielle 17ý and Lindsey 15. All wonderful kids. Matthew is a special needs child, he has what is called Fragile-X Syndrome. Apparently I was a carrier of a damaged gene and passed it to him. I only carried it so I was 95% unaffected, but when passed to him, it expressed itself fully causing various mental and behavioral issues. My daughters, thankfully were spared, are not even carriers so they will go on to have normal lives and families. Matt is 19, but mentally functions at levels between 3-7 years. He's a happy and smart kid but will be with us the rest of his life. Being a Fragile-X carrier gives me a reason now for all my shyness through out the school years!
School
The only thing I miss about High School is the guys and 1 gorgeous English teacher. I miss all the flirting that went on. My mother would not allow me to date anyone from school so I missed out on a lot. She did love Chuck Bailey(85) when he came to my house but still did not allow me to date. The one date I was allowed to go on was with someone my sister picked out for me and he went to Riley. I met him in 85...dated, broke up, dated broke up etc...June 1991 I married him. He was my first for everything. I sometimes wonder if my life would be different if I had dated any of the guys at school but I am glad things worked out the way they did. Life has been full of ups and downs for me and right now I'm somewhere in the middle of those. I've decided, after many ...Expand for more
years of thinking and re-thinking, to seperate from my husband. I've considered doing it for a long time and I finally came to the conclusion..it's now..or never. I'm hoping it will be smooth and as easy as possible on my 3 kids.
Workplace
I've worked at banks since I graduated HS. Five years at First Interstate, they merged with Wells Fargo and our department(Items Processing)was eliminated. Worked at First Source for a short time, moved onto Society which was merging with Ameritrust (now Key Bank). Found out I was pregnant and ended up quiting due to the overtime and weekend hours. Did not work for sometime and then went on to Valley American, there for 3 years and they were taken over by National City, again Op's was eliminated. Started at a small one branch bank called St. Joseph Capital Bank and truly thought I was safe from mergers and takeovers. Ended up being there for 8 years, let my guard down and what do you know, the president of the bank shopped the bank around and sold us out. The bank is now Old National. I worked with a great group of people there, and it was like having a second family. It was a real shame to see people losing their jobs so someone else could line their wallet. No warning or anything, just dropped the bomb at a meeting and expected everyone to smile and be thrilled. Goes to show how upper management does what's best for them and to hell with the people who actually do the work. End of tirade!
I'm currently at home, my severance ran out in June 2007. I recently decided to work again as I have grown tired of just staying home. I love to work and I know I'm good. I now have to put a major effort into job hunting so that I can move out and be totally self-supporting
