Anne's Story
Life
Why donÂt I feel like itÂs been 25 years since I graduated from High School? Maybe itÂs because I donÂt feel old  or the fact that I have a daughter starting Kindergarten in the fall. Toddlers tend to make you feel young, or exhausted, I canÂt decide which!
I think IÂve had a pretty normal life so far. Nothing totally out of the ordinary has happened. After attending UW-Whitewater, I worked for Costco Wholesale which was the predecessor of SamÂs Club. I did marketing prior to the club opening and then moved into the vault area. I didnÂt particularly like being locked up all day, but enjoyed the fast pace and time constraints of balancing and reconciling all the money that came through each day. After Costco closed in Milwaukee, I made the transition into banking and worked for Equitable Bank for two years. It was during that time that I found my true passion, my career.
In 1989, I took a position with the Village of Slinger as the Deputy Treasurer. I had interned with the Village during college and when the position opened, I got a call to apply. Little did I know that this small step would lead me down a career path that I never thought I would take. The position was only part-time and I took a calculated risk taking it. IÂm very glad that I did.
In 1990, a full-time Clerk/Treasurer position opened with the Village of Hustisford. My college roommate was from there, her mom was on the Village Board and with a little help and a lot of guts, and I took that job. I also met my husband there. Poor guy didnÂt know what hit him  and most days still doesnÂt! I found being a single person office kept me busy and allowed me to learn the job inside and out. I loved the contact with the residents but definitely hated having to sell lots in the Village owned cemetery. I got married in 1991 and thought life is goodÂ

I tend to ...Expand for more
thrive during a crisis, I love deadlines and pressureÂ
.and the Village of Hustisford was a bit too tame for me (ok IÂll be honest  living in ÂHooterville as I affectionately called it was making me nuts!). So, I applied for a job as City Clerk/Comptroller with the City of St. Francis, which is the first southern suburb of the City of Milwaukee and located right on Lake Michigan. The gods were smiling because I got the job and have been there ever since. Each day is different from the last. Between elections, state and federal mandates, calculating and processing tax bills (and yes, everyone hates those), being the Executive Director of the Community Development Authority, doing the CityÂs financial statements and managing an office staff, I donÂt have time to breathe during the day. And I absolutely love it! IÂm also involved in the Wisconsin Municipal ClerkÂs Association and am on the Executive Board. In September of 2005 I received my MasterÂs designation and there are only 400 of us world wide.
Mark and I adopted a daughter in March 2001. Anna was three weeks old when we got her and has turned my world upside down ever since. SheÂs a joy, a challenge and a real pain in the butt on occasion. Hmmm, I can hear my mother saying something about payback! Having a child hasnÂt slowed us down as we still travel and boat like we used to. WeÂve been to Australia, the Caribbean, Mexico, Vegas (but never seem to win a whole lot), Phoenix (looking to relocate there), New York to name a few. We are taking Anna to Disney World in September which is why I wonÂt be at the reunion. I thought that was an acceptable reason to miss it!
As I look back, I feel like my life has been pretty blessed. Family, Health, Career  itÂs all good. I hope that you can all say the same about your lives. I wish you all well, and if youÂre ever in St. Francis  stop in!
