Anne's Story
Life
How to sum up the last dozen plus years in 4000 words or less? I tried college for a few years, then my Dad was diagnosed with cancer and I didn't deal with it very well, so I dropped out of college. At the time, I though it would just be a semester or two break, but I've been on college hiatus ever since. I went to work in the family business, selling clay and all things related to pottery supplies. After I got past the major grief issues of Dad's death in 1993 (thank you, therapy!), I realized that I was really happy working at Bracker's. I've helped the business grow and expand, including building a brand new, 15,000 sq ft facility, and taken on a lot of responsibilities such as graphic design, advertising, accounting, pottery-related technical support, web site, and so on. I work with my Mom, sister Cindy, her husband Dave, and a handful of non-related staff members. It's a challenge working with the family, but it's also quite rewarding. Plus, when I...Expand for more
was in college, I struggled to pick just one path for myself, and now I find that I'm doing ALL of the options I had before me in school. Very cool!
I've been in a few long-term relationships that didn't work out, and am still single. My parents had an amazing relationship and I just haven't been willing to settle for someone that just didn't seem right in one way or another. But I'm lucky that I have the opportunity to be aunt to three beautiful nieces (as of April, 2006 they are 8, 3, and 16 months).
To keep me busy and out of trouble, I have gotten involved in a lot of different activities and organizations. I served several terms on the board of directors for a rural water district (more exciting than it sounds!), volunteer and sit on the board for the Lawrence Community Shelter (a homeless shelter), and do freelance graphic design. My months are filled with board and committee meetings and I get to meet a wide variety of people I wouldn't normally meet.
