Anne's Story
Life
Life has been good to me. I have a great husband - married 46 years this December - and two great kids. Our son is 38 and a Mechanical Engineer for Bell Helicopter in Dallas. In 2006, he has married a great girl that we love. They have given us four amazing grandchildren that are the light of our lives. Our daughter is 26 and is teaching high school in a Title I school in the same district I teach in. She married a great guy in 2010 and they have 2 wonderful kids. . My husband retired in March of 2006 after 31 years with Dow Chemical. I retired from our local school district after 20 years. I had some other jobs but none that lasted long enough to retire from. We have lived in the same small community (about 60 miles south of Houston) that is a great place to raise a family. I graduated from the University of Houston in '76 with a degree in Microbiology. for 8 years. After that I held other jobs here and there but finally decided that teaching is what I wanted to do when I finally grew up. I have been teaching 7th grade for the last 12 years and have had a good time. I have been accused of being a little demented but I think that is why I enjoy junior high kids. There are always some kids you wish you didn't have to deal with but most of them are good and want to do what they are supposed to. I taught a Multimedia class (elective) so I don't have to worry about the STAAR test. I retired after 3 years as the District Testing Coordinator which meant I was in charge of the state testing for our district. That was an interesting and challenging position but I loved it. I retired to spend more time with the grands. Great decision! We live about 15 minutes from the beach so that is one of my favorite weekend activities. I also watch the Astros every day they are on TV.
