Anne's Story

Life After spending my childhood on Quarry Street in Nogales, Arizona and graduating High School, I went on to the University of Arizona. Where I got a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. My first professional job was with Intel in Chandler were I worked as a process engineer in the Etch area for 3 years. In 1989, I moved on to MOS-6 a Motorola Semiconductor plant, where I was involved in their first 6 inch start-up of the factory. In mid-1990, I transferred from to Austin, Texas for Motorola's the start-up of another semiconductor factory, this time with 8 inch wafers. I was then hired by a competator - AMD in Austin Texas, another semiconductor company where I worked the next 10 years, doing various jobs in Photolithography and Etch. During that time I also managed a 2 year assignment at a reasearch consoritum called Sematech from 1995 to 1997. It was at Sematech in Texas, that I met and fell in love with my husband, David Nelsen. David is also a Chemical Engineer, he is 1 year older than me and graduated from Texas A&M - and Aggie (for all you football fans out there). Changing my name to Anne Nora Nelsen. In October 1999, I was blessed with my first son, David Charles Nelsen. Who is a bundle of energy! I quit my job when he was born, then in May of 2000 moved to Oregon with my husband, who was employed at Intel there. My daughter, Deirdre Anne Nelsen was born in July of 2001. Later that year my husband was offered a foreign ex-patriot assignement to Intel Ireland. It took 2 years of planning and selling houses - plural- which was pure, unadulterated hell! But, happily, in 2003 with no trucks, mini-vans or housed to our name, we arrived in Dublin Ireland with 8 luggage bags loaded with toys, clothes, diapers, pots and pans and a few things I could not live without. I was also 10 weeks pregnant(again!). We first moved to Kilcock Ireland (about 20 minutes west of Dublin City) in July 2003 where I stayed for 1 year. My 3rd child was born in...Expand for more
Dublin's Maternity Hospital in December of 2003. Caitlyn Frances was baptized at St. Cocoa's Catholic church in Kilcock Ireland. My mother and my best friend Linda - godmother, with her family of 5 showed up for the baptism. In July 2004, we decided to move out of Kilcock, cause the house was too small for our growing family. And we rented a spacious 3 story house in Maynooth, Ireland - still west of Dublin - but only about 15 minutes out of the city center. We are very happy here in Maynooth, the neighborhood has a lot of little kids for my kids to run around with. Right across the street live a little boy and girl who are best friends with my two oldest kids. We are scheduled to return the USA in July 2005. We are relocating to Chandler Arizona, where there is a new 12-inch semiconductor plant my husband will be working in this coming summer. We have enjoyed our stay here in Europe, so I have to say that although we do have 3 young kids, we still have managed to tour Ireland extensively, see Paris, Barcelona, and Rome (the biggies - in my mind). They are beautiful. If you go to Rome, don't miss an excursion to Pompei. We hope to see London before we leave and also Wales. I really don't want to go without seeing the Beatles Museum in Liverpool. We are toying with the idea of seeing Euro-Disney. But then we decided to meet Linda a her family in Disneyland California later this summer, so we can see the new LEGO-land too. I have met alot of Americans here in Ireland, there is a spouses network that I belong to, for all the wifes of ex-patriots here. It is fun, we meet at least weekly and spend the rest of the time on the phone, ha ha. Winters are dark here, so I have joined a craft group and found that my latest passion is quilting. I love it! I have made 4 quilts all ready and have 3 in the making. I have borrowed my friends $1000 craft sewing machine and now I am ruined for anything else! I am out of space now, so I have to run, email me! Bye...
