What fueled this passion I have for jewelry? My grandmother. Children learn to do what they see and I was raised by my grandmother who wore incredibility gorgeous jewelry. When I was a little girl I’d watch my Puerto Rican/ Taino grandmother cook. She was sweet & kind and I wanted to be just like her. She grew a colorful vegetable & delicious herb garden on her window sill and would ask me to grind her harvest & so she could mix them into her sofrito. The smells of her cooking felt like home to me. I would marvel at the beauty of her semi-precious gemstones earrings & how they looked peaking through her long hair. I was spellbound by the movement of her earrings when she turned her head and the way light would reflect from the different gradations of color. Men and women who wear my jewelry say they can feel the love in my jewelry. What they feel is the love and the joy I felt from my grandmother as I keep her memory alive each time I make and wear jewelry like she wore.
