Annette's Story
Life
I've been living in Phoenix, Arizona since 1989. I returned to college here at night, and after nine years of going to school at night (not that anyone was counting...) received my Master's degree in ESL/Bilingual Education.
Along the way, I took up learning Spanish again. I've now retired after fifteen years of teaching high school Spanish...but I didn't have my students sing "Tengo Nada!" Who could forget that song?! Not Ms. Varner's students! I also taught college education courses online.
I spent a semester last year (2011) living in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico and teaching English at a university there. It was a very educational experience, and one that made me appreciate my life here in the U.S....and the fact that I a...Expand for more

The best thing about my teaching career was my students, here in the U.S. and Mexico. I love staying in touch with them through Facebook, and will miss having my own classroom.
My hope as I enter this new phase of retired life is that I will find a new passion, read a lot of books, travel as much as possible, visit friends here in the U.S. and abroad, and see where fate leads me!
Favorite pastimes are cooking and baking, fine dining and wines, travel, the performing arts and rock concerts, live music and dancing, sporting events, reading, walking, and foreign and independent films.
I visit the Modesto area about once a year to visit my parents, who live in Waterford. I enjoy seeing old friends when I'm there!
