Anthony's Story

As a person who's father was career military for 20 year, we moved on average every 2-3 years... Friends came and went... I had pre-school in Northern Ontario, Canada and Kindergarten in Newburg NY... I spent 1st, 2nd, and part of 3rd grade in Hampden, then 3rd and 4th in Bangor when we moved in to help take care of my elderly Great Grandmother until her death in '59, then back to first quarter of 5th in Hampden before Dad was transferred to California for my health because of allergies... 5th grade in one elementary school in Lompoc, Calif... then moved to another elementary school for 6th grade that was more for military families... then to a new middle school for 7th and 8th where the student population was over 2,000 and a majority Hispanic as it was a major farming community other than the local AF Base... then the first quarter of 9th grade was in the new high school... Cabrillo High... it was awesome... Then Dad retired and Mom wanted to move back to Maine... so again, left all my friends and move back to Hampden Academy... it had been over 4 years since I left my friends there and I had change... I was a total stranger... no one came up to welcome me "Home"... it was at that point I learned "you can never go back"... I made new friends, but was so used to "moving on" that I changed friends easily... nothing is permanent... maybe it was because if I got too close, I knew it had to end at some point so I did what was natural... I just moved on... I enjoy meeting ...Expand for more
new people and it's easy for me to make friends... but I always end up "moving on"... I've been a renter all my life, varied types of jobs, and always up for a new adventure and new friends... I'm now 72 and Since birth, I've moved 37 times to date, with another move coming as my landlord wants to sell my little cottage that I'm renting... I've realized that "in the end" we have maybe 3 things... lifelong friends (which I don't have), Family (which I never married, so I don't have... and a sister I don't take to), and Memories that most people don't want to hear (which I have thousands)... LOL... I remember you all fondly in the times we had together... and wish you all the best... NO, this is not a farewell letter... LMAO... this is an explanation to any and all who may have wondered WHY I was like I was... I just got too comfortable with "moving on"... the next adventure... the grass was always greener... what's just over the hill or around the corner... it was never anything personal... we all have regrets, but I'm not sure I'd do anything different under the same circumstances... I've got a 3 month membership here and will probably be gone either by then or before then... this next move is going to be massive... from a small 1 bedroom cottage with full basement and small garage, into a small 1 bedroom or even a studio with no storage... I've got to dump 90% of the past 7 years... say hi, if you like... if not, maybe see you on the other side in 10-15 years... 😉
