School I always knew I'd become a high school band director...after all, I had the best example to follow in Milton Bush. As I recall, Coach Brown would send me to the band hall every day just to get me out of P.E. class. I must say, he really knew how to get rid of the worthless non-athletic types like me. He never even bothered to write a hall pass...it was like: "Corroa...get out! Go play music or something..." Another embarrassing recollection was the time Brian Dameier and I cut school to do a remote interview for a Civics project. (Remember, Brian?...bet you do!) We didn't bother to ask Mr. Swearingen's permission even though he indirectly gave us the idea from something he may have said in class. I think he might have frowned on the part about cutting school...guess that's why we decided not to mention it. In any case, it was a time in which the entire country was excited about the implementation of school integration. The very first black child was placed in Franz Elementary School and we decided to go interview her at her recess time and take photos for the project. As we hid in the bushes near the school yard, she suddenly appeared on the playground. She was a beautiful child and I recall she wore a very pretty white dress. At that point, everything else became a blur. I can't remember which of us jumped out to snap a photograph but we were instantly nabbed by the duty teached and hauled into the principal's office.
