Anthony's Story

Life Once you have signed my guestbook, look me up on the internet at Adelante High School and shoot me an email. After graduating from HS my family moved out to Arizona. As a student at Arizona State Univ. I was attending a school that had more people than my hometown. It was the challenge of finding a connection to ASU that led to my growing as a human being. I backpacked through Europe with some good friends. I joined a fraternity and discovered a balance between my Midwest upbringing and the temptations of college excess. I spent a semester in Wash.,D.C., as an intern in Senator DeConcini's office and experienced the logical disconnect of our govenrment. The recession of 1991 gave me the courage to live and work overseas after graduation. I moved to Japan and became a teacher of conversational English to students from 3-75 years old. It was while working at the YMCA English school that I met the woman who would provide the connection to the strengths hidden within me. Living and growing with my wife since 1993 has provided me with an unqualified bonanza in my life. After living in Japan for 2.5 years, we moved back to Arizona where I finall...Expand for more
y studied with a passion. I earned my MA in education with a thesis exploring Waldorf education. Upon graduation we moved to the Sacramento area where I hoped to find a teaching position. The struggle to find a position in a glutted market led me to look beyond my comfort zone. I was blessed to join a small continuation school for at-risk 9th and 10th graders. These discards from an affluent community taught me a tremendous amount about a sub-culture of America that I was too hesitant to approach directly. I now work at the bigger school in the district and find the challenges I faced in connecting with troubled teens has made me a better teacher and human being. The twists of fate that have woven their threads into my life have brought me wonderful challenges. Every challenge has provided me with the opportunity to grow or give up. It is the people that I have known, places I have been, and things I have done that have filled my life with richness. I believe that the challenges yet to come will provide me with tremendous opportunities for self-actualization. This biography is, hopefully, merely the introduction to the greatest part of my life.
