TONY's Story

I finished up high school and enrolled at DCC where I earned an Associate of Science Degree in Science. I was offered a scholarship to Seton Hall University, but turned it down because my Mother was diagnosed with cancer. So, I enrolled at Averett. My Mother lost her battle with cancer Jan. 2000 and I quit school. I re-enrolled at Averett in the fall of 2000 and graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science and Mathematics. In 2003, on Christmas Eve, I lost my brother to a massive heart attack. And I lost my father to a massive stroke in April 2006. Not even 10 years to the day high school ended. it. Through all of this, my high school sweetheart helped me. I married Kathy in 2004. Married now for almost 4 years, together for 13 years. No children yet, but we are hopeful. She is amazing and has helped me through a lot. We still live in Danville and own our first home. I work for Belk Department Stores on the POS / IT side and have a pretty good job. I want to move back to Chicago, my sister is there and we are the only ones left. I have uncles and cousins in Danville. I stay here for Kathy because her parents are still here, and I know what it's like to want to be around them. She has seen my parents and brother pass away, so I can't blame her for wanting to stay. So, a lot has happened since high school.
