Anthony's Story

I am not the best typist and am awful at proof-reading my own stuff, so sorry in advance for what will definitely be some typos in this. Well, since I graduated from Shaler...I went to Pitt and got a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Hell, I was in classes with some of my Shaler classmates who were also math majors. I then attended the School of Education to earn my Master of Arts in Teaching. I became a math teacher and not the doctor that I always felt I would be when in high school. I figured that I could not handle being around sick people so I thought being a doctor would not be a good idea. I bounced around several jobs for a while. Not to complain, but I do not have connections which means I have to find teaching positions based solely on my abilities and that can make getting a job as a teacher tough. In fact, I have known many of the peoplke I went to school with who wanted to be teachers have long since given up. I however knew that was what I was supposed to do, so I stuck with it. I put in time being a day-to-day substitute for the Pittsburgh Public Schools, I became a Job-Readiness Teacher/Coach for Connelley Technical Institute and Adult Education Center, a full-time substitute position at Carlynton jr./Sr. High School, a Child Development Specialist at the Bradley Center (both on a full-time and part-time basis), and a teacher at an alternative school in Upper St. Clair. I finally landed my current position as a Mathematics Teacher at St. Joseph High School in Natrona Heights. A lot of my friends think it is odd that I teach in a Catholic school, but overall, I like it. Oh yeah, when ...Expand for more
the paycheck comes and I pay my bills, it can be rough as most people know, the Catholic schools pay their teachers much less than public school teachers receive. But the kids are generally nice to work with an most of them actually want to learn something. I teach Calculus, Statistics, Precalculus, and Advanced Algebra. I also am an in-home tutor to make money on the side. I also coach Bowling for St. Joseph and have in the past coached Softball. I have won a couple of awards for my teaching and the kids seem to like me...after all I got the pretty cool nickname of "Tino," which is certainly better than some nicknames I could get. On a personal note. I am still single and looking. I just haven't met that special woman yet. I have dated here and there but nothing became too serious. It always takes me a while to let people know me and I tend to be quiet until I get to know you. I have always been shy and only become out-going when I am comfortable. Plus being over-weight didn't help. So I have been working on those things. I have recently lost 160+ lbs. and I feel great. I am also starting to take moments to do some more crazy things...well not too crazy...I am a teacher and being too crazy gets you in the news and makes you not a teacher anymore. Well that is generally where I am right now. I actually broke down and got a real account on this Classmates thing. I hope to reconnect with some of you out there. I have already run into some of my classmates down at Sidelines in Millvale. I do try and get there every once in a while so I may bump into you there. I hope to hear from my freinds soon.
