Anthony's Story

Life I'm still playing a lot of hockey and do pick up a tennis raquet, go mountain biking, swimming or another sport, but not nearly as often as I play hockey. My fiance and I did play in a coed softball league this summer. It was fun, but I injured my hamstring which caused me to miss three weeks of ice and roller hockey so I don't know if I'll be doing that again (Just kidding..I will, but I'll either run over or around the girl blocking the bag instead of trying to pull up at full speed next time :) ). When I'm not playing hockey or at work I'm hanging out with friends, reading, writing, playing Xbox 360, watching movies, going to concerts, listing to music, watching TV, relaxing with my fiance or spending far too much time on the net. Not in that order and of course that isn't the full range of my activities, but it does represent some of the more common ones. School What I remember most about high school is probably the times in the cafeteria hanging out with friends and the days after school playing street hockey with the same guys. I did have some good teachers and learned a lot, but frankly its the time spent with friends you remember most. College I made some good friends in college that I remember fondly...unfortunately I've lost touch with the vast majority as I'm prone to do. I remember hanging out with those friends, writing for the Gazette, lounging in the UCC in the spring and fall as the beautiful women walking by, working out in the gym there also surrounded by attractive women, playing intramural roller and ice hockey. OK, I do remember more than friends, women and sports. I do actually remember the classes - especially the interesting special topics courses in the MIT program. Frankly, when I enrolled in Western I was planning on a combined honours in English and History followed by a teaching degree (so I could teach and in my spare time write novels). Well, after my first year History course team taught by team dull and dry I changed my mind about the History half. I still wanted something to combine English with as a combined honours meant not having to take a second launguage. There was a new program called Media, Information and Technocu...Expand for more
lture which I decided to try and I'm glad I did. That portion of my degree was not only very interesting, but it did directly lead to my first internship and full time job - that along with my volunteer work at the Gazette. When my four years were up I looked into a Masters in Creative Writing, but most schools didn't favour genre writing (and I prefer the Fantasy genre) and I decided I didn't need a degree to write. I also briefly considered Journalism school, but missed the application deadline and also figured that if I wanted to pursue that field a graduate degree wasn't critical. In the end I ended up taking an Internship at a Bell Canada company and now work in the Marketing department at Bell ExpressVu. I don't write as often as I'd like to between work, friends, hockey and just life, but I do have a job where I'm surrounded by a good group of people and I provide creative input that's taken into consideration and often utilized. Workplace About 4 months out of university I landed an internship at Bell Nexxia through the Career Edge program (for people with an Education, but not a lot of experience). That's also what brought me to Toronto (where I thought I'd stay for only a few years and then return to London...but I'm still here in Toronto with a fiance from here and a group of new friends so it's unlikely I'll be living in London anytime soon). I was working as an administrator for the Nexxia Learning Network (an online site for the Business sales reps), answering help calls and emails as well as writing and revieing site content. Eventually that lead to a contract as the site Content Manager where I wrote copy and reviewed and edited course material. That lead to a full time position. My first boss, Jonathan Menon, helped me get into the company and provided invaluable advice and guidance. I also really enjoyed working with great people such as Manish Jha, Laurie Meher, Jamie Sinyard and Sharon Inkster. After three years at Bell Nexxia I moved on to a job at Bell ExpressVu as the Online Marketing Manager as part of the Marketing Acquistions team. That's where I still am today and work with a great team (and I'm not just saying that because I still work there).
