Antonio's Story
Life
I have lived in Colorado for 6 years now and have settled in the City of Thornton just 10 miles north of Denver. The Rocky Mountains are very beautiful and words cannot describe how great nature is out here. I escape to Mexico every now and then; love Mexico City and Ixtapa!
I really enjoy the community I live in and the friends that I've made through political activism, Colorado Citizens for Peace, my neighbors and from the staff that I work with at Vantage Point High School. This is my seventeenth year of teaching alternative education and social studies (Economics and history). I advise the school's first Gay-Straight Student Alliance (GSA).
I am very active socially, politically, and spiritually here in Colorado. I volunteer, go clubbin', protest the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, and serve on a number of non-profit boards as a grant writer. I enjoy my weekends and like to just sit back and read a good book every now and then. Traveling is fun, but I enjoy staying close to home more than ever.
I am a representative of the Green Party of Colorado for the Institute of International Education, and work with minor parties from other countries. I serve as chairman of the Adams County Green Party. Proud member of the National Education Association, Lavender Greens, and seve...Expand for more
ral progressive think tanks.
I ran for state office in 2008 as a Green. I still love politics and public policy. Currently working on LGBTQI Youth Rights and Gay Educator activism! First openly gay candidate of the Green Party of Colorado and first openly gay teacher to lead a group of GSA tudents in Denver's 2008 Gay Pride Fest Parade.
School
I graduated from State University College at Buffalo or Buffalo Teachers College in 1990 with a Bachelor's Degree and earned a Master's Degree in Education Administration from University of Phoenix in 1998.
Currently, in 2009 became a fellow with the Center for Progressive Leadership and pursuing another degree at George Washington University in Public Policy.
Workplace
I work in a wonderful school district in Thornton, Colorado and serve a great group of kids. Most are special needs but they are fun to work with most of the time. It is a tough job, but I have grown accustomed to working with an at-risk and alternative student population over the past fourteen years.
I am a grant writer for several non-profit organizations.
I have been at the Vantage Point High School for six years now. The staff that I work with are truly amazing and dedicated to their students. It is an honor to work with such intelligent and courageous people.
