I feel very blessed to be here, both literally and figuratively!!! I'll tell you why on my page! Jesus is the author and perfector of my faith!!! Let's see where should I begin, well, let's talk about dramatic life changing events!!! For me my event came when I was 19 yrs. old. May 16,1996. It was raining torrentially that day and had been raining for about a week or more in Sonora, CA. However, I'm not really sure how long it had been raining, that time in my life is rather foggy because of what happened on that day. My friend Marla Morin/Fairfield and I were headed down to Stanislaus St. in Turlock, CA from Sonora that morning. Marla, had an appointment at Stanislaus St. and I think that I wanted to check-out the summer school schedule and to see about summer softball availability. But all of our plans were most definitely not to be!!! I remember none of what I'm about to tell you or a couple days before. I was the passenger in Marla's 1994 Dodge Shadow, w/ only a driver-side airbag, and just after we had left Jamestown, CA on highway 49 the car hydroplaned jerking the wheel out of Marla's hand's, and sending us right into the path of a big 4 wheel drive pick-up truck which hit us mostly on the passenger side of the little Dodge Shadow, and drove the car into a nearby bank on the o...Expand for more
pposite side of the road!!! Marla was knocked out from the collision and regained consciousness while the EMT's were cutting me from the car with the Jaws of Life!!! After they got me out, I'm told that I was sent by ambulance to the nearest Heli-Pad. Where I was Medi-flighted to Doctors Hospital in Modesto, CA. I was diagnosed with A tramatic brain injury, a broken R femur, a broken R hip, and two broken L side ribs!!! But by far the head injury was the worst news!!! My dad got the call at work from Mona McGrady, " April's been in a bad accident she's breathing, but that's all I know!!!" Needless to say, my dad was crying and praying the whole 1 & 1/2 hr. drive down to Modesto. When my dad arrived at the hospital he was quickly ushered into a room where he filled out paperwork. Then when he finally got to see me I still had shards of glass scattered across my chest, and I lay unconscious on a medical gurney!!! I spent 2 & a 1/2 weeks in the Neuro intensive care unit. Then I was 2 & 1/2 mos. in a coma at a nearby rehab hospital where I spent a total of 7 & 1/2 mos. learning how to walk and talk again!!! In Jan. '97 I was released and I could talk, but barely!!! I couldn't even really think till about a year after the accident!!! Walking was only because of my desire to walk, and that happened a little over a year after the accident!!! It's been a long struggle, I didn't get my driver's license back until 3 & 1/2 yrs. after the accident!!! I was partially paralyzed on the right-side of my body, and I would have become left-handed but I have tremors in the left arm, that only shake when I concentrate!!! So I had to stay right handed, which took ( is still taking ) some work!!! The right arm has had some recent improvement, now I'm able to write without looking to make sure it's right!! Thank God!!!".
