This account is about my work carrer. After graduation from WHS I started working on my BA in Education at NSU. But before finishing I received my greetings from Uncle Sam. I had tried to join the Army,Navy,and Air Force Reserves but they had all met their quotas. About a week before having to leave Mr. Skains call me from the LA National Guard Unit in Winnfield and said he had an opening and was I interested. Well Yes. So I joined the LANG and spent the next thirty years going to summer camps and drilling once a month. So after Basic Training at Fort Bragg and AIT at Aberdeen, MD I returned to NSU and finished up. My first Job was teaching Driver Education at Bunkie High & Bunkie Jr. High School in Avoylles Parish. After that first year Mr. Bennett Principal of Dodson High School gave me a job teaching with the catch that I would work for him for at least four years. I worked there five. During this time I served on the Winnfield Fire Department and my wife Betty and I hung wallpaper. I did stay on the fire department for over twenty years and went to LSUE and received an Associate Degree in Fire Science. I taught Fire Science classes in Winnfield for several years. I then moved to Winnfield where I worked at the Middle School and then moved to Eastside and then back to the Middle School. During this period I was working on my Masters Degree and working the swing shift at Crown-Z feeding the plywood veneer dryers. This took ten years.
