Archie's Story
I left Saskatoon 26 years years ago. I was in a relationship with Barbara Aubichon and we had four children from the relationship. I separated from Barbara 25 years ago. Barbara passed 11 years ago January. I went through a treatment centre in Maple Ridge and then into a recovery house in Surrey called Cornerstone Manor. I moved out of the recovery house after six months and moved into a two bedroom apartment in Surrey with my sons Donald and Jason. We lived in Surrey for just over ten years and they moved out 15 years ago. I went to a life skills program in Surrey called the MAP Mens Action Program. The life skills program was a baby step towards school. I then moved into the west end of Vancouver and was lived there for seven and a half years. I lived a block from Sunset Beach by the ocean. I moved six years ago December into an apartment accross from work in the downtown eastside. I started a course at Douglas College in New West called the Community Social Service Worker. I started part time in and ended up full time doing the course in three years instead of four. I applied for a job about half way through the course in the drop in centre and was hired as a mental health support caseworker in The Kettle Friendship Society. I graduated from the course in June 2002 and then was hired full time shortly after as a mental health support caseworker. I worked in the Super supported program for just about five years and made a job move into the Semi independant housing program. I had my own caseload and worked there for just over three years. I went back to school to take the Substance Abuse Counseling course at Vancouver Community College 11 years ago. The course is a three year course. I graduated in November 2010 from the course. I changed jobs just over ten years ago. I started in the shelters for The Salvation Army Harbour Light in Vancouvers downtown eastside. I finished my probation period and applied for the caseworker position. I was hired 12 years ago and had my first three men on my caseload to work with. I now see up to fifty men a month. I believe I will start my counseling career here. I am going to continue my schooling to achieve my BA, MA, PHD. I have just started Ministry school through a university through my Church towards a BA of Arts in theology and bible studies. I just finished my third semester. I will ...Expand for more
achieve a certificate after this final semester in ministry. I just finished and passed my last semester and finished my ministry course of two years. We will celebrate the graduation shortly Late July or August. I go to an awesome Church in the west end of Vancouver called Coastal Church. I attended the Balfour reunion and reconnected with several of my teachers, friends and classmates. I come down every Christmas to visit my daughter Lana and grandchildren, Amber, Austin, Lorissa, and Braiden in Clevet just outside of Saskatoon. My first great granddaughter Arianna was born September 1, 2013. My great grandson Xavier was born two years later. Elizabeth our third great granddaughter was born 214 days ago. I come down to Regina to have lunches with the friends and classmates I have reconnected with at Christmas. I am still active physically participating in the Sun Run, BMO Run, Cancer Run, Spartan Race, Dragon Boat races through mental health, weight train, Crossfit, and hockey. I participated in my first Reebok Spartan Race last year and have now participated in six. I participated in my first Reebok Crossfit Open compeition last year 2015. I compteted in my second Reebok Crossfit Open 2016 in February. I am now in my fourth Reebok Crossfit Open 2019. I started Olympic lifting three years ago and competed in our in house competition my first. I love to travel, fish, hike, bike, rollerblade, and camp. Since God entered my heart and life my life has continually progressed for the better in all areas of my life. My youngest son Jason passed three years ago June 13 and God provided the funds to take his body back to Regina, funeral expenses, and bury in the same cemetary as his mother, uncles, aunts, and cousins. My second great grandchild a Xavier was born November 20.
My son Donald passed January 19, 2021. Once again God provided the funds to take his body back to Regina for the funeral and internment at Riverside Cemetery. I decided to move back home and began to put myself out to find a job in Regina or Saskatoon. God provided a job in Regina at RT/SIS. I moved back at the end of May 2022 and started working there. I decided that I needed to change jobs again and I applied at The Salvation Army Waterson House. God once again opened the door and I was hired as a caseworker. I started working here two weeks ago November 14.
