Arnie's Story

After High School, I went to Colorado School of Mines. Originally I wanted to be a "Chemical and Petroleum Refining Engineer." After my first year, I started realizing that I enjoyed computers more than the engineering part, but CSM didn't have any Computer Science degrees. I stayed for another year in Applied Mathematics, but then transferred to CSU so I could go to a school with a computer science type of degree. While at CSU, I decided that dating was more fun than studying and by the end of my Junior year, decided to get married. Well, that lasted a few months--I was absolutely not ready to "play grownup" yet. I did manage to meet a great woman a year later and we got married shortly afterward. In 1987, we moved to Tulsa, OK. I got a decent job at a company called NORDAM. I started as a technical writer in the engineering department, mostly defense contract type of writing. Unfortunately my wife didn't really like Tulsa yet I had what looked like a great opportunity in front of me. So after three years, we decided that she would move back to Boulder and we would remain friends. She's a great person, but we just had different lives to live. After a couple of years, I transitioned into the computer department...Expand for more
...well, I kind of became the computer department. In 1997, after three years of telling a friend that I didn't want to move, I finally took a job in Pittsburgh for a home improvement company. That company was bought by Sears a year later and they transferred me to the Orlando, FL area where I am now. Currently I am the Information Technology Manager for the home improvement division of Sears. I manage a team of great professionals that really are some of the best in the industry. Like any job, there are good and bad days, but for the most part, I love what I do. And I LOVE Florida. I never would have dreamed that I would enjoy it so much, but I really do. There are a countless number of things to do here, outside of the touristy things that everyone thinks of when they think "Orlando." With 50 weeks out of the year with great weather, we have festivals, farmers markets, beaches, parks, etc. around us all the time. And we're about 30 minutes from the "attractions" when we feel like we need a roller coaster or a Mickey Mouse fix. Okay, that's enough for one sitting. I'll add more later. Life is really about the connections we make in life. Hopefully I'll be able to reconnect with some of my long lost friends.
