Arnold's Story

Life: No, I didn't graduate in 1960; I got kicked out in Spring '59 with 20 other students for after-game action. I sold Bibles door to door and worked in Manhattan for a short time for a PR company (Dick Richards and Clyde Jorgensen were at Columbia Univ). I tried to return to EHS in Fall of`61. That lasted 3 mos. I was already too worldly for high school. After drilling for oil in WY, and the Navy (62-65) I went to U of Texas, then U of Cincinnati where I taught philosophy for 30 yrs. Married several times. I've retired to do more writing and professional activities and hobbies. I'd like to hear from others. (Moved from Cincinnati to Menlo Park, CA, 2007. Anyone hereabouts?) In Englewood I went to Scenic View Elementary (now an industrial area). Memorable teachers were Bishop, Rudy, and Fernandez. At Flood JH, I was friends with Art Allen and Jerry Heydon, and remember Mrs Woods and Mr Palmeri. The wrestling coach advertised his Corvette for sale as "Raced only on Sundays by little old school teacher." I was in love with Norma Cole and Sandy Newman. Mrs Flood was the Principal, at a school named for her. Imagine not big on compassion. AT EHS my favorite teachers were Jackie Hall Ms Schall, and Gordon Flieger, science teacher/wrestling coach. As a science project, I attached a cord to 2 carbon rods, plugged it in the wall -- instant flash of a blinding arc light and the fuses in the building went out. Lots of lovely memorie...Expand for more
s. Oh, the stories we could tell. I was in love with the pep squad, the cheerleaders and the pom-pom girls, about 360, and I was keen on some others too. Guys I miss: Mike Rounds, Denny Rademacher, Dick Richards, Rich Palmer, Gary Clark, Mike Kunz, Mick Corners, Walt Steputis, et al. It was great to see a few friends at the 1990 reunion. I enjoy driving around Denver and Englewood after yrs away. A flood of memories, and a delight to see buildings I worked on a an ironworker in the summers. In the last few years, I've enjoyed contacts with Jerry Heydon, Karen Pokraka, Art Allen, John Bahde, Clyde Jorgensen, Lorena Pepper, and Virgil Evans. Their high costs do more to stifle interaction than to promote it! Can't they make it through ads? Try Viagra? Every page already has ads, and they're selling the info you give them on Q&As. What do they want from us? BTW: Where are the Chat groups they had a few years back? My comment there was about what an ugly reception my hispanic friends received when we came from Scenic View to Flood JH, and ditto for blacks when we went to EHS. Did you witness that? (I've just posted a new version; find it if you can) Major complaint: Classmates is totally disorganized, can't find squat here! Best, very best to you, --Arnie

This is Florence, Italy, from an overlook. The first bridge is the Ponte Vecchio. The dome is the Duomo. P and I climbed to the top. Arduous and hot in July. But a great view.
