Arthur's Story
Life
I attended Purdue from 1960 to 1965; where I intended to become a vet but after getting through pre-vet and into vet school I decided I did not want to be a vet. I was accepted on the condition that I get more liberal arts courses at Purdue; which required me to attend Purdue anothern year in order to get said courses.I started at IU's medical school in Indianapolis in the fall of 1965 and graduated in June 1969. From there I entered the US Navy and was off to Vietnam. Subsequently I did about five more years of postgraduate medical training and became a pediatric gastroenterologist. ch career in the area of gastroesophageal reflux and its complications in infants and children. After that period in my life I went to work for a number of pharmaceutical companies where I continued to work in this field but also worked in drug development programs in which new therapuetic agents to treat these conditions were developed. For the last few years I have been working as a consultant to the same type of pharmaceutical companies; again in the area of reflux but also in the development of nutritional products particularly infant formulas. Over the years I have lived in San Diego, a couple of places in the LA area, Little Rock, Kalamazoo, Chapel Hill, and now I am back in Lafayette where I am enjoying being associated with the campus activities at Purdue. My wife and I have two daughters and two granddaughters.
