Arthur's Story
Arthur McCartan was my father. I think he graduated in 1933. In 1936, after 3 years of Normal school, he won an appointment to West Point. from his graduation in 1940 he served in first the Army Air Corps and then the Air Force. He served in WWII in the Air Weather Service in South America, North Africa, India, China and Burma. Subsequently he and his family (wife and 4 daughters) moved several times...Expand for more
and he retired from the service in 1968 in Florida. He moved to St Louis to work for MacDonnel Douglas aircraft. He died of lung cancer, although he never smoked, in 1999 at age 82. I am one of 4 daughters who wants to learn more of his life in Superior. His mother, Mrs McCartan, taught commercial arts at East High from 1920 to 1955. His mother Gudrun McCartan,passed away in Superior on July 7, 1970.
