Astrid's Story
Life
If I didn't like high school you would never know...I certainly spent enough time getting (and giving) more education since then. The end result is a Ph.D. in developmental psychology (from Washington University) that I am currently using to keep myself sane while raising 5 children (ages 2-13). The truth is, I love it! (raising the kids, not the Ph.D.). I am exhausted by our hyperactive lifestyle, but the way I see it... sleep is highly overrated. I am actually having more fun now that I have taken over my oldest son's education. A handful of you might recall the tirade I went on one fall day in 7th grade at Farquhar Middle School. The tirade ended badly with me swearing that I would never put my children through such educational nonsense as I was enduring. I actually promised myself that I would homeschool my children that day. It only took 3 years of begging by my oldest son, Aidan, and continual guilt induction by my husband before I finally decided to take Aidan out of 7th grade and teach him myself. You know, surprise...surprise!!! I actually like him!
Anyone who has read this far, might be interested to know that I did not have all these children by myself, but that I have been married to a wonderful man named Frank Hussey since 1990. I have lived primarily in the Midwest (e.g., Illinois, Missouri and Indiana) since my graduation from Georgetown in 1987 (where I met Fran...Expand for more
k). Think of the major cities in each of the previously mentioned states and that is basically where I have lived. I am currently outside of Chicago in IN. My house is on a lake (those of you who remember that I grew up on Pond Rd. in Ashton, Maryland will understand why). I live no where near any of my family but within an hour of all of my husband's gigantic (Irish) family. Suffice it to say, my in-laws have over 30 grandchildren. It is absolutely impossible to have a family gathering of less than 40 people. It is not a coincidence that I have mentioned Indiana and Irish in the same paragraph. My husband and most of his family are Notre Dame graduates. All the men (including Frank), are OB/GYNs. After all... Notre Dame means "Our Lady". ... O.K, so it's a stretch... Freud would certainly make something of the connection. If you've made it this far with me into my self indulgent foray into my past..... please drop me an e-mail. I'd love to hear from you and say "hi". Asti (Astrid)
College
Gillette House, Spontaneous trips to NYC with Dawn, Martica and her "boys", "purple people", discovering research with the DeVilliers, sunbathing topless on the roof, endless winters, continental novels at Amherst and discovering a whole new world. It truly was the commencement of a great life. I'd love to hear from anyone who remembers. I regret loosing touch when I went to Georgetown. E-mail me!
