Audra's Story
Hi-
Many would probably remember me from high school as being academically focused and socially awkward. As a teenager, I found it hard to relate to others.
I met my husband, Karl, at Dowling College. We were married for many years but are now divorced. We have two daughters, the eldest is thirty five and the youngest thirty one and another “adopted” daughter we took in that is also thirty one. I have thoroughly loved being a mother! I am now a grandmother to Jackson, who is eleven and Owen and McKenna who are six years old now. I think I like being a grandma even more!
For the most part, I had been lucky enough to enjoy staying home working part time to be a wife and mother.
I have been volunteering as a legally ordained minister for thirty years now.
Volunteering and connecting with others has been the true passion of my life. I have been involved in helping struggling teens and their families, helping families with the struggles of having a child with Type 1 (Juvenile) diabetes, helping the elderly and infirm, and most heavily involved in the mental health community. I have enjoyed speaking publicly educating local communities and colleges about mental illness, and teach classes about it. I became a certified suicide prevention trainer, I volunteer heavily at the state psychiatric hospital, sitting on the Citizens Advisory Board, I also assist patients and their families in numerous ways, connecting them to resources, visit patients on the units to provide socialization, assist with wellness fairs and fa...Expand for more
mily fun nights, and mental health court dates, I have recently began volunteering for NAMI National as a HelpLine Support Specialist-now connecting with people in distress all around the country.
Now, I enjoy being personally involved with many other people from all different circumstances. My children volunteer in the community as well.
Years ago,I also got my "bucket list" car-a black 2013 Dodge Charger R/T Plus with AWD-it's a HEMI!!! I have been modifying the car myself-and loving every minute of it!
For our 25th wedding anniversary present my husband took me to Florida for my first time ever-I went to Disney, the Kennedy Space Center, and I got to spend five days with my best friend still after all these years-Jason Wolnek. It was just awesome!
I finally went back to school and got my BS in psychology with a minor in HR. I focused heavily on employee wellness long before “ the great resignation”!
I am working as a Health and Wellness Ambassador at RiteAid in a job I absolutely love with fabulous people!
I am finally getting to travel a little when I can and go out all the time with friends.
I am a trivia geek traveling with my team through the bars of NH and love attending concerts ( BTW...Foo Fighters at Fenway Park-BEST CONCERT EVER!!!!)
I have learned to embrace the future, and hope life continues to lead me down unexpected and challenging paths. I have been able to take difficult situations in my own life and have learned to help others who are suffering as well. It has made all the difference.
