Hi- Many would probably remember me from high school as being academically focused and socially awkward. As a teenager, I found it hard to relate to others. I met my husband, Karl, at Dowling College. We were married for many years but are now divorced. We have two daughters, the eldest is thirty seven and the youngest thirty three and another “adopted” daughter we took in that is also thirty three. I have thoroughly loved being a mother! I am now a grandmother to Jackson, who is a teenager now and Owen and McKenna who are eight years old now. Grandchild number four was just born in February-another little girl! I think I like being a grandma even more! For the most part, I had been lucky enough to enjoy staying home working part time to be a wife and mother. I have been volunteering as a legally ordained minister for over thirty years now. Volunteering and connecting with others has been the true passion of my life. I have been involved in helping struggling teens and their families, helping families with the struggles of having a child with Type 1 (Juvenile) diabetes, helping the elderly and infirm, and most heavily involved in the mental health community. I have enjoyed speaking publicly educating local communities and colleges about mental illness, and teach classes about it. I became a certified suicide prevention trainer, I volunteer heavily at the state psychiatric hospital, sitting on the Citizens Advisory Board, Patient and Family Advisory Committee, and the Safety Change Initiative, I also assist patients and their famili...Expand for more
