Audra's Story
College
The first college I attended was SEMO, and I had the time of my life. I only stayed a year and a half, but I still think about those days a lot. As for DSCC, it was just hard. Being a single mom trying to work and go through the nursing program was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. It really made me appreciate everything I had at SEMO. I don't think I would have ended up in nursing had I stayed, but I am very happy in my career now. I have always believed that things happen the way they do for a reason, and I feel like I am where I am supposed to be, at least for now.
Workplace
I've had lots of jobs since high school, working everywhere from gas stations to Wal-Mart to factories. I couldn't find anything I wanted to make a career of. g. I spent the first 2 and a half years working in a nursing home as assistant director and then director. It was a great learning experience, and very rewarding, but also extremely demanding and stressful. When I decided it was time to move on I tried dialysis, which I didn't like at all. Now I'm in my third nursing job, working for the state in public health, and I feel like I have really found my place. I love it. It was worth every effort and all the years it took to get to where I am today. I don't make a ton of money, and it certainly isn't a glamorous job, but I love going in to work every day!
Military
If you know me at all, I'm surprised you even checked this spot! I'm not the physical labor and sweat type. I never served in the military, but I did spend my first year of married life as an army wife in Fort Hood, Tx. All I have to say about that is that I don't miss it (the army or the married life!).
