B.J.'s Story
Life
I basically left Midland when I went to Albion College. I have taught all over the US and in all grades. I had 3 fantastic years in Saranac, MI. In the late 60's I taught music at Seagate in Naples and was Mrs. Scofield - played my uke and taught folk music. Also lived in AZ, CO and OK.
In 1972 I married Bill Schweitzer. We have lived in 24 different houses and these states - IN, OH, CO, TN and 3 cities in CA. We have 4 kids. Bill Jr. was born in 73, Karl in 74, Heidi in 78 and Heather in 82.
In all the moves I have co-owned 3 weekly newspapers in CO, and AM radio station in TN and 3 transportation companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. In June of 06 we sold our businesses and I divorced Bill in Jan of 07.
At this time I still live in San Jose. My sedan service dried up with the economy. I continued my Schweitzer Learning Methods - a tutoring program especially for kids with dyslexia. I have 3 grandsons who light up my life and will have a granddaughter in Feb. 2010! My kids all live within 12 miles of me.
I am writing a couple of books. The first I hope to get published soon! I had expected to have it finished before now. I still compose music and stay active in many activities.
I'm a Christian poet and currently have 3 CDs. I now have 5 grandkids and another one coming. I have replacement parts-hip, knee and shoulder. I still ski and am extremely healthy. I love the adventures God has given me. Can't imagine what the future holds.
Workplace
My first teaching job was in Saranac, MI and I loved every minute of it -well nearly. ...Expand for more
The kids were great, the town friendly and the Principal - well - there will never be another I could admire more. I moved to Phoenix and did subbing, then to Florida. I long term subbed in St. Petersburg and waitressed at the Sand Dollar restaurant. In the fall of 1968 I taught music at Seagate El in Naples - I also taught 1st grade reading. Those kids were super. I worked at a marina in the summer and was choir director at the Episcopal church.
In 1969 I moved to Colorado and did more subbing and began selling Tupperware. Moved to Clinton Oklahoma and taught music in Arapahoe and became a Tupperware mgr. Moved to Indiana, Ohio and California and did subbing. In 1979 my husband bought a weekly newpaper business and I worked for him - did all the photography, ad sales and some feature stories.
I taught at Valley Christian HS in the 80's after we moved back to San Jose. In 1989 my husband bought an AM radio station (WHDM) in McKenzie, TN and I did ad sales, commercials and office work for the next 3 years.
We moved back to CA and I taught electronic music at Lincoln HS. I also taught at Luther Burbank in San Jose and started my own Schweitzer Learning Methods program. This is a program for learning disabled kids and I worked with 6 private schools - it was a pull-out program.
From 1991 till 2006 I worked for my ex-husband in his taxi and limousine businesses.
At this time I am basically an Activities Director for CareMore - a health insurance for Seniors on Medicare. They believe in keeping people happy and healthy. I really love CareMore!!!
