Barb's Story
Life
My husband, Duane, is a police officer in Bloomingdale which is where I work also. I'm a police dispatcher/911 operator. Needless to say we have crazy schedules and rarely a holiday off together.
I've got 3 girls. Kaitlin just turned 18 and graduated from Glenbard North. She is going to University of Illinois in the fall as an Animal Science major (yep, she's just like me!). Kristina is 16 and into Japanese anime. We've hosted 2 Japanese foreign exchange students and will have another one this summer. Kourtney is 11 and does dance and cheerleading.
We own a boat so our summers are usually spent on the water.
We've lived in Carol Stream for about 12 years. I've volunteered for PTA, Girl Scouts, church, etc. Big "sucker" on my forehead? Actually I've met a lot of great friends in the community by being involved.
It's amazing to me how times flies. I can't believe my oldest is leaving! B...Expand for more
ut it makes me realize that I had some great friends in high school who I'd like to get back in contact with.
Workplace
In high school I worked at Naperville Animal Hospital with hopes of eventually becoming a veterinarian. Well, life didn't work out that way and I started at the Bloomingdale Police Dept in 1988 as a Community Service Officer. I've never been a "cop groupie" or really into law enforcement. I wanted to be an animal control officer. The CSO job was more parking tickets than animals so when I was offered the dispatch position I took it. I've been dispatching since 1989. I answer phones including 911; handle radio traffic; take complaints and send officers to calls. It can be a stressful job and the hours suck but I'm good at my job, the pay is good and I have a nice pension. So I'll be sticking it out until it's time to retire and then my husband and I will get a farm downstate near a lake.
