Barbara's Story
My name is still Barbara Bennett. I live in Anchorage, Alaska in a big house on the side of the mountain overlooking the Cook Inlet. I moved to Anchorage from Los Angeles 12-years-ago on Christmas Eve. My back yard is the Chugach National Forest, the nation's 2nd largest at 5.6 million acres and my neighbors include eagles, moose and bears.
I primarily work in conservation, serving on the national board of the American Cetacean Society which is the oldest whale conservation organization in the United States. tures on the ship as we cruise as we cruise through Alaska's Inside Passage to Canada and back. I'm also responsible for the commentary from the bridge of the ship, pointing out things like bears, whales and glaciers along the way.
When I'm not doing all that, I indulge my passion for crows. In addition to studying and photographing ravens and crows in Alaska, I share my home with an African pied crow, the same species of black and white bird that you see on TV in the Windex commercials.
I love to hike and kayak and am most at home when I'm next to the ocean or on the trail with my dog and my camera lost in the beauty and boundlessness of one of the greatest wilderness areas left in the world today.
This coming summer will be my ninth summer at sea. If you book a cruise to Alaska, make sure you're on the Coral Princess. I'll be there. I can't make it to the reunion this year so I'd love to see some of my old friends from Tulsa on the ship this summer.
