Barbara's Story
I'd love to hear from others who know me or think they'd like to know me. Old friends from schools, colleges, the military and friends during all these past years.
Married for the second time. Husband Dewey Jack Shelton is retired military and also retired from being an airport executive for Dallas Love Field.
We have 8 children between us (1 deceased), 18 grandchildren (1 deceased) and 6 great grandchildren. Everyone is scattered all over the US. I had 3 adopted children by my 1st marriage; and Jack, my husband had 4 when we married. God blessed us with my first pregnancy when I was almost 40, and we had a daughter, Shanna, now 31.
There is so much to tell about and believe it or not, a lot of it is very interesting. LOL! I've had a varied history since graduating from highschool. Lived in Germany, and many places all over the USA being a military wife and fulltime mom. I've worked many different jobs from office manager of a video production company to Office manager to a private investigator and attorney. From graphic arts to Church secretary. From secretary to the Director of Nursing in a Texas college to creating personalized childrens books. I am a certified Church musician and spent many years directing Church choirs and music departments, and was studying to become a minister at Perkins School of Theology (SMU) several years back. However, I became ill and almost lost my life, leading to many hospitalizations for several years. Now, I am concentrating on good health and am praying that I will be blessed with many more years. I have a walking mobility problem, which makes it difficult to do so many things I used to do - but my wonderful husband does everything - he makes my life so much easier with the handicaps. Jack and I share the same birthday (Oct 10), but he has had it 3 years longer than I have!
We now live in Arlington, TX, between Dallas/Ft. Worth. We like the area here, however - I'll always love my home state of Kansas. We attended my 50th class reunion in 2006 and it was so wonderful to see everyone again.

June 2008 - Wanted to tell you what happened to Chapman Highschool (DCCHS) on June 11, 2008. A tornado wiped out about 85% of Chapman. All three schools were destroyed including the highschool. Homes, businesses, churches all gone. One church was founded by my great-great grandfather. Chapman is my home area where generations before me on all sides of my family helped to settle that part of Kansas and generations before me graduated from Chapman. There are still relatives that were attending currently. The tornado then hit Manhattan, Ks., where Kansas State University was hit - I attended college there for some time. The KSU campus was partially wiped out. It seems as if a part of my life has been ripped from my heart. I am very saddened by this tragedy, but I know that the residents of Kansas and Chapman are resourceful dedicated people that have already begun to rebuild and go on with life. If any of you Chapman students or alumni read this, I know that the schools need donations of financial assistance.
