Barbara's Story

I am married to my best friend and living quietly in the mountains I've always loved. I was divorced several years ago from my first husband and we had no children. I took a long time to do it again and this time really did it right. Actually the big joke was my mom picked him out as I'd met him years before and not seen how wonderful he is. Meanwhile I came to Christ and became a regular Church goer. Can you believe it? That dingly hippy chick? I'm also very conservative in my views and lifestyle. LOL Can't say I've always lived this life but I'm happy I do now. I am the sum total of all in my life and at this point I'd say I'm pretty happy with that. I tried several times to go back to college but finally did so in the early 90s. Only as far as a couple of AA degree's or at least so far. I kind of have a 'bucket list' and a BS is on it but the more years go by the less motivated I am. Most of my career type work has been in volunteer posisitions such as ARNG Family Readyness of which I take the most pride. I still aspire to write professionally though I've only published a few pieces and a local column in the weekly paper. My inspiration is my dear Mother In Love, Shirley who has also had several careers and began publishing her novels and poetry since about the time we got married. Their 50th year of marriage. Longevity is in my husband family tree. She and I also share a history of recovering from serious brain bleeds and lengthy unconciousness. Praise God we are both doing very well thank you. Currently I lead a couple of small writer's groups, one online and am working on remodelling our home which is a long term project. And I am trainig, or being trained by, my Border Collie mix. (He just spent 20 minutes running through the house with a squeeze toy rabbit singing Jesus Loves Me the toy, not the dog.) My other dogs were all quiet and reserved... he is anything but... and a blast. I hope people remember me as kind. That is what I strive for every day. I always wanted to be a writer/artist when I grew up. Though I 'm not sure I've ever wanted to grow up. My family and friends tho...Expand for more
ught that was a unrealistic idea. As it turns out, that was irrelevant We play with Jacks, walk in or drive through the mountains, garden, watch too much TV, and are active in our church and community. My obsession would have to be Jacks. He is a total character. He runs 25 mph uphill and then to spice it up goes up and down 45% slopes and steeper, jumps in the river for a swim and then comes and plays ball or just cuddles up with his head on my lap. Daily if I take him. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my kitchen, Den, LR, office, guest house, garage, bedroom, bathroom and add on a dining/exercise porch and bathroom. My dream home would be oh yeah we are in th emiddle of that mode. LOL Oh and a new entry/deck and front yard, new roof and completely redoing landscape. LOL. It is my ongoing art project much to my husband's dismay. Though I've never had kids of my own, I have had some special people in my life who were more like my kids than not. I've learned humility, patience, joy and the real meaning of unconditional love from them. Ok not greek system but I did graduate Phi Theta Cappa. Happineess is living here, serving God, with Steve and Jacks. My first crush? I can remember what he looked like but not his name and he dumped me because I was a ditzy freshman. Smart guy My second boyfriend had once had a secret admirer thing for my older sister and when he showed up at the house my then future brother in law ran him off. LOL If I had it to do over the one thing I would have done is I would have studied books instead of boys and listened to the teachers who were encouraging and ignored a few who shouldn't have been teaching. In 10 years, I hope to be a pubished author living with my sweetheart right here with the house paid for and FINIshed. I'm going to get there by keep on keeping on. Ok, I'll admit it I've gotten fat. A school memory... Senior Cut Day 1971 or maybe it was 1990, you guys know the one... the whole school basically cut not jsut the SRs. Most got busted at the Ocean. Poor Jody... he never got a break on stuff like that. PS I did NOT get busted until the school called everyone's parents....
