Barbara's Story

I always wanted to be a Fire Fighter when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a weird idea. As it turns out, they were wrong and I followed my dream. As well as a Paramedic then I went back to college and became an Rn an worked as a Traveling Surgical Intesive Care Nurse. Now I'm retired and helping a friend from New Morning High School with a sign business and flea market in Winston Salem NC UPDATE: I have moved from Winston Salem to Versailles Indiana in order to concentrate on running my flea market antique business. In the middle of all that I married a few times eventually finding the love of my life unfortunately losing him a few years ago after many wonderful loving years running a dixieland jazz band together. I love to blow off steam by going antiquing for salt glaze pottery at flea markets and shooting my blackpowder rifles. Several months out of the year I spend on the road living in an old converted school bus selling antiques and used books at flea markets in the mid west. See my photo album for pictures of my bus. My hero is my Daughter. she has dealt with me for a biological mother. and all that means. LOL Having her father die at such a young age and yet she has excelled to graduate from college at 21 and a plan for her future. A strong modern woman standing on her own feet. Since High School I've lived: in Boston where I went to college the first time; East Lansing Michigan where I worked for Dominos Pizza; Dayton Ohio where I was a Fire Fighter,; Los Angeles California where I worked construction, became a nurse and worked at LA County USC Medical Center; Durham NC where I worked at duke University; Honolulu Hi where I worked as ...Expand for more
a traveling nurse and as a Master Scuba Diver; Las Vegas NV as a traveling nurse and back to Los Angeles for retirement with my husband and our Jazz band. Upon his sudden death from heart disease I found it to hard to stay in Los Angeles around reminders of our life together and I moved to Charlotte NC where I had met some friends on the internet. I have now moved up to Winston Salem NC where a couple others from the New Morning High School Comunity have settled. My pets are 2 sugar gliders. given to me for Christmas 2007 by Harry Tuch. They are named Mele Kalikimaka and lil bit of trouble. Sugar Glidders are australian flying squirels a nocternal marsupial that looks like a chipmunk. very loving and cute but not for everyone. Much like ferrets a hard pet to care for. My biggest supprise has been that I am 50 years old I always said I'd never get this old. And I definitely never expected to be this broken down even if I did get this old. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel everything and add on a solar and wind power system. My dream home would be strawbale house in the country. If I won $100 million, I'd give 3/4 of it to build a HHO plant to burn nucelar waste, then spend the rest on building my dream house in the woods off the grid far from pollution and urban sprall. My first crush was Harry Tuch and we got back together over the past few years. He's the same as he was in High School EXACTLY THE SAME. I guess I grew up. We still see eachother since we run a flea market business together. but he's in North Carolina and I'm in Indiana now. My best friend would tell you I'm flaky, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as driven.
