Barbara's Story
Life
Retired from teaching 6th grade social studies in Bowie, TX. Moved back to the Austin area in Taylor since 2014.. Subbed, do photography, photo restoration. Scan and transfer photos and slides to digital. I am very involved in local politics. What would you expect? You know who my mother was! I am involved in art and after spending about 5 years in the local art gallery, helped with the boys and girls club, counseled kids, and helped with many events, I decided to actually act retired. I am limiting my activities to politics, art, family, and friends.
One son, his partner, and a grandson named Ozzy, husband, BJ. What is the meaning of life? Take care of yourself and others. Life is too short. Be nice or be gone!
School
I always felt I was in the background watching the others live life and would never fit in. Now I know better. Common sense and lack of security and money kept me away from drugs and dangerous activities, not that I would have done them anyway. Fear of certain teachers and fear of failure kept me away from some needed classes. It is so interesting to visit with people from the past! I am very secure ...Expand for more
now and love life. I laugh at aging when I'm not trying to run from it. My mind is 20 and my body is 60 plus. I prefer to think positively and realistically. Also on Facebook and check out my 'Scan Sister' page.
Military
Are you kidding? I'm a Quaker. My son however, finished his tour in Korea, Iraq, Kuwait and is out after 8 years. He's my precious! Artistic, musically talented, learning to be a hemp farmer.
I noticed there are not many choices on the interests lists. My passion is photography and I like Motown music and old rock but they are not listed. Also like a variety of pleasant music, KD Lang, Sade, Enya, Traveling Wilburys, folk music, Nora Jones.
My niece, Katy, died (Jan 2010) from complications. She had a stroke at age 6 and was 15. My daddy died in 2001 and my mother died February 2012. They are greatly missed. It is difficult losing friends as we get older. We should try to make the best of it. i decided not to let the calendar tell me when to give gifts to people. I give them things when I have them. Who knows if it will be too late and the surprise of receiving unexpectedly is better than otherwise.
