Barbara's Story

Life After high school I went to Central Missouri State Univ. in Warrensburg, where I earned Bachelor's degrees in Early Childhood & Elementary Education. During my freshman year I met Eric, who is today my husband. We have been married for 10 years and have 2 beautiful sons together. Aiden, 1/10/02, and Logan, 2/5/04, fill our lives and house with love and joy. For the last 7 years I have worked for the Versailles Elementary School as a kindergarten teacher. I love what I do, but I wish I could be home with my boys. This past summer I finished my Master's degree in Library Sciences and Information Services. While I'm not quite ready to leave my clasroom, I am glad to be done with college for a while! I've changed a bit since high school and some of you might be surprised by the outspoken and determined person I have evolved into. I hope to hear from some old friends and find out what paths your lives have taken. School High school wasn't exactly the happiest chapter in my life. I'm actually surprised that I'm on here at all, but my husband has been having great fun connecting with old classmates and urged me to do the same. Probably my favorite high school memories didn't actually happen at the school. I have treasured memories of youth group activities through my church and hours spent giggling with friends at their homes. College College, now that was fun. My roommate and I forged a fast friendship from the very beginning and one o...Expand for more
f my regrets is that I've lost contact with her over the years. I did a lot of wild and crazy dating my first semester - there were nights I had two dates in the same night! - but when I met Eric at the beginning of my second semester I was hooked. We got engaged shortly after we started dating and were married in May 1996. I graduated with Bachelor's degrees in Early Childhood and Elementary Education in Dec. 1996. In Summer of 1998 I started my Master's degree in Library Sciences and Information Services, which I expect to (finally) finish this May. I took a few detours along the way in grad school but am determined to wrap it up as quickly as possible. Workplace I started my teaching career at a tiny K-8 district just outside of Clinton, MO. I taught 1st grade there for 3 years and it was very much a baptism by fire sort of experience. Meanwhile we had moved quite a distance from the school to facilitate my husband's career, so in 1999 I decided to seek a teaching position closer to my current home. I landed a job teaching 4th grade at Versailles and spent one very miserable year doing that - I am NOT a big kid teacher! I quickly scuttled down to Kindergarten, which is a much better fit for me and have taught K quite happily for the last 6 years. I will have a big career decision to make at the end of this school year when our current librarian retires and I have to choose between remaining in my classroom or moving to the library media center.
