Barbara's Story
Who am I? I am a child of God who is living victoriously, in spite of many challenges. I am a wife, to Alcide King, who has been married for 28 years. We met at Jackson State University and I ended up majoring in him, instead of Accounting! As a result of this relationship, we were blessed with two gorgeous children, Anita Barbette and Alcide III. We have one precious granddaughter named Kennedy Angeline. My family has served this country with the military for over 20 years. We have served on the Coast of MS at Keesler AF Base; Sacramento California at Mather AF Base; and as ambassadors for the USA in Pruem, Germany at Pruem Air Station. As an Air Force dependent, I was privileged to play softball on the Pruem Air Station Female Soldier's team, since the women were few and the site was small. oring new places, as a result, we have traveled to many different countries and Islands (Honolulu, Hawaii; Cozumel, Mexico; Kingston and Ocho Rios Jamacia; and the Bahamas). This year we plan to travel to Amsterdam, Holland to support his niece who will be graduating from high school. My interests are helping people to enjoy life while using all of my God-given talents. I love to decorate; cultivate my gardens; watch and play sports; sing and dance; and travel. I have worked in the school system as a Substitute Teacher and a Teacher's Assistant. I also taught the In-school-Suspension class at Highland Oaks Elementary School, Memphis, TN. I loved Permanent Subbing 7th Grade Career Discovery Class at Michel Middle School and Nichol's Middle School, Biloxi, MS. My hat is off to teachers! I also love to tutor children. My husband is a Mentor in the Memphis School System. I currently sing in my church's choir, praise dance, and serve on the hospitality committee.
