Barbara's Story
Life
I am the reunion contact for Conroe High School. Call 936-445-1257 locally or the Houston metro area and 800-550-1052 in the rest of the country. I don't feel like I have made much of my life. I think the only thing I have to show is the people I have touch along the way. I hope I have manage to help a few and I hope I have raised a good son.
College
My time at U of H was great and even though I was MUCH older than most of the students, I was never made to feel that way. Conversations were always stimulating and although I formed few close friendships, I had many classmates that I enjoyed very much. I also enjoyed my Sociology professors, with only one or two exceptions! The best class though was the Summer Seminar on Marriage and Family. It was just the best and I had the best group...A lesbian radical feminist, a gay that came out in class, a girl that wanted to fi...Expand for more
nish school, get married and have babies, and me a liberal democrat straight confirmed permanent divorcee. Made for interesting banter! I loved it!
Workplace
I stayed home for a year and couldn't find work when I 1st left HS. Then I went to college for a semester in Shreveport, got married, stayed there and worked for a CPA as a clerk. Left there and returned to Conroe, got a job in Houston running a large IBM computer. That's the kind of jobs I had for the next several years until I got pregnant with my son in 1982. After that, I had no transportation from Cleveland, Tx to get a job that was decent. So I drove an Ice cream truck and then got a chance to go back to College. I finished that and worked for the Gallup Poll for almost a year until a medication a doctor gove me messed up my brain and now I am disabled because of it. Now I make jewelry for my mother and friends.
