Barbara's Story
After high school, I went to Lebanon Valley College, Annville, PA, graduated with BS in Music Educatoin/English minor. Marrried, and went off to join my husband (also an LVC grad,)in Paris at the Convatoire National de Paris, for one year. Travelled a bit in Europe before coming home and working to pay the bills for awhile, as music teachers in the Philadelphia public school system., for two years. That was definitely not the life for me.
Then moved to Manhattan, where my husband was in grad school at Juilliard. I worked for voice teachers as a studio accompanist. We lived there nine years, and left the city when our oldest was a year and a half, to move close to the ocean., in central New Jersey. jobs, or church music work. I also worked in the corporate office of a food store chain for TOO many years - to have a steady income and health insurance.
Been divorced a long time. My kids still live nearby, and I have four young grandchildren, whose lives have been a blessing to me. I see them all the time, and babysit regularly.
I'm still working as an accompanist at a local church, and assistant organist.
A few years ago I sold my house and moved a few miles from Point Pleasant,, to a "Senior" community. . Who wants to rake leaves and shovel snow when they're looking at 70?!! But still miss my house in Point Pleasant.
My first job was at a ballet school, when I was twelve, where I got paid peanuts to accompany. What I remember most about it is the boredom.
