barbara's Story
Life
I am currently living on the road in a 40 ft. diesel pusher motorhome. I've been on the road for five years now and wouldn't move back to a house for love nor money. I love the freedom of the open road. I love seeing our beautiful country in detail.
I had been dreaming about seeing the US in depth and also visiting as much of the rest of the world as possible since I was in high school. I'm finally getting to fulfill my dream.
My husband died in January of 2012. After the dust settled, I purchased an RV for seeing the US. I also scheduled a month-long trip to Asia, where I visited Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong, traveling primarily on my own, with stops to visit family members who live over there. It was awesome! I have a blog at (you know the first three letters) slipstreamserendipity.wordpress (.com) for anyone who wants to see pictures from the trip.
I am still out here on the road having recently traded in my 36' gasser for a 40' diesel pusher. I have a motorcycle on the back for alternate transportation when the RV is docked in a campground. Forget aging gracefully. I just want to enjoy whatever time I have to the max!
School
Elementary school was great. Of course I went to school back when you actually got an education....
Junior high (or middle school as they call it these days) saw the formation of cliques and those who were "in" or "out". What a waste of time and energy that was for all involved! Still I enjoyed gymnastics and drill team and survived in one piece. And, hopefully, didn't d...Expand for more
o too much damage along the way.
High school started out OK, but the sixties were a traumatic time. I spent a lot of time soul-searching (without much success at that age!), partying, experimenting with drugs and attending peace rallies and love-ins (ah, now those were fun!). There are a lot of memories, both good and bad and a few blank spots ..... (you know what they say -- if you can remember the 60's, you weren't there!).
College had to wait. I had too much to see and do once I got out of high school. I have a lot of credits under my belt these days, but have never bothered with getting a degree. At 66 it's one of those "why bother" things. I still take a class now and then when something strikes my fancy, but that's the extent of it. Besides, there's the internet these days. The farthest I have to travel to learn something new is my computer.
Currently: Artwork and travel are enough to keep me busy these days. Since I gave up television about 4 years ago I have plenty of time for hobbies and I enjoy those Of course, they are the reason I needed the larger RV. All those hobbies require a lot of storage area!
Even more recent: about 18 months ago I met another full-time RVer in southern AL. Our dogs got along so we would talk while they played. We got along so we started traveling together. That worked so we tried living together in my RV (the larger of the two). It worked out so well that we got married last May. Now we have an extra RV. Anyone want to buy a 36 foot class A motorhome? We have a spare...
