Barbara's Story
Life
I am married to Bruce. We have a daughter Emily who is eight. We live together in Amherst NY and keep very busy. I am an RN in the OR and he is a manager at a collections company. I am hoping to get in contact with some old friends from high school to see what they have been up to for the last ten plus years.
School
I went to many different schools as I was growing up. Jr High was in Cortland and wow, were we crazy, especially over the older boys, right Steph? :) We had funny nicknames for all of our "crushes" so no one would know who we were talking about. So Jr High! I was only in Cortland for one year of high school. I moved to Weedsport the summer before 10th grade, although my friend Lisa was willing to let me live with her so I could stay in Cortland. I miss all the fun we had. Weedsport was a lot different. A lot smaller! I loved the small town atmosphere and all the friends I made there. I couldn't goof off in school though (well not too much anyway), my step-mother was a guidance counselor there. We still had a lot of fun. I had my 1st real high school boyfriend, Shannon. Who also broke my heart right before prom, but hey, it was young love. LOL! Susan and I were crazy together, Katie and I practically lived together during high school :) Loved her cat! And the english muffins! Tracy and I were close friends right before graduation and when I was in Basic Training. We went through salmonella poisoning together, that was crazy!! We still made it to the senior dinner dance. After high school I went away for Army Basic Training and lost touch with a lot of friends. When I got home I started college a few months later and the crazy fun started again.
College
College was a great experience for me. I just wish I would have taken it a little more seriously in the beginning. I wasted a lot of time and money and got nothing for it sometimes. And I still have to pay back all the loans I took out. Cayuga Comm College was my 1st college experience. I met a lot of great people there, hanging out at the radio station. Katie from high school was there, we actually lived together for a while. Summer of 96 was a real eye opener for me. I learned that...Expand for more
sometimes the people you trust are the ones that will ruin your life and not think twice about it. I learned this the hard way when I lived with some people I worked with and hung out with their Rochester friends. The experience changed my life forever but I am a stronger person for going though it. HAHA girls, you can't beat me!! And as for the Rochester family who try to ruin it all, you'll get yours in the end. Tranferring to Univ at Buffalo was a great decision. I met a lot of great people that were very close to me. It took me a few extra years to finish my degree but I finally did and with good grades too. I graduated from Nursing school in May 2008 and have decided that I am done with school for good!
Workplace
My 1st job was at Burger King in Auburn, NY. Late-night drive thru queen!! What a blast, I met a lot of people!! Then I was sucked into the Walmart vortex. :) I worked at the Walmart in Auburn for about a year or so. Met a lot of great people there and some not so great people. I left there when I moved to Buffalo. I worked some odd jobs my 1st year in Buffalo, I was in school at UB. In 1997 I started working at the Walmart in Amherst, which is where I met my future husband and my best friend Julie. We had some wild times while working there, going out every weekend! In 2001 I got a job at Millard Suburban Hospital, while still working at Walmart (the 2 job thing only lasted a few months). I left Walmart and I still work at the hospital now. I love working there!
Military
I JOINED THE ARMY RESERVES MY SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL, AND LEFT FOR BASIC TRAINING A MONTH AFTER I GRADUATED. I WAS AT FORT JACKSON, SC AND THEN WENT TO FORT BRAGG, NC FOR MORE TRAINING. I ENJOYED BEING AWAY WITH SUCH A CLOSE GROUP OF PEOPLE BUT WAS QUITE BORED WHEN I RETURNED AND STARTED DOING RESERVE WEEKENDS. IT WASN'T AT ALL AS EXCITING AS I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. I DID MEET SOME GREAT PEOPLE .. MY BUDDY TINA WAS IN MY RESERVE UNIT AND WE WENT THROUGH BASIC AND AIT TOGETHER. IT WAS NICE TO HAVE SOMEONE THERE WITH ME THAT I KNEW. IF I HAD IT ALL TO DO OVER I WOULD PROBABLY HAVE GONE ACTIVE DUTY. I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO TRAVEL AND SEE THINGS WHILE I WAS SO YOUNG.
