Barbara's Story
Life
After Vanier CEGEP, I worked for a pulp and paper company for 18 years. I was active at the downtown YMCA where I enjoyed aerobics and running.
I married (too) young, divorced (no kids) and moved to Ottawa in 1991. I worked in property management for 12 years.
I still enjoy aerobics and weight training, cross country skiing, walking, swimming, sea kayaking and especially cycling.
I met the true love of my life, Wally, four years ago and am enjoying life to the fullest with him. We have done a fair amount of travelling together in this short time. I quit my job at the end of June and we spent the summer travelling around Europe. We had a blast.
I finished my full time studies in Brantford Ontario. I started my new career as an Instructor of the Blind and Visually Impaired in Orientation and Mobility. It is very fulfulling kind of work. got a job in Prince George, BC. I've been here almost a year and love it! I travel all over northern BC for my job and have met hundreds of people with vision impairment. I feel like I'm making a real difference in many of their lives.
My creative side wants to emerge more and I enjoy sewing, silk painting and working with stained glass. I've discovered quilting and check out the quilting stores in all the little towns I travel to. Singing is my passion (I was a part time karaoke DJ for 5 years in Ottawa) and I played the role of Mrs. Pearce (housekeeper to Professor Higgins) in a production of My Fair Lady. It brought back many wonderful memories of MCHS when Claire Toka (now Fabian) and I were in the chorus of the production there.
I still keep in touch with several MCHS alumni and enjoy reliving happy memories of grades 7 to 11 spent there.
I hope you're all doing well...healthy, happy and enjoying life. Maybe we'll see each other at a future reunion!
