Barbara's Story
Life
Still married to Dean Armstrong (GHS'67),
50 years in May 2020.
The picture is taken in our home.
After a couple of daughters and careers and a BA, a BFA and MA, I am now an artist, retired community college art teacher and a grandmother 2 times.

College
I went to several colleges:
Stephens, 1969-70 I lived in Searcy Hall at Stephens, and would love to hear from any other
Searcy-ites from 1969-70.
Mesa Community College, ENMU Portales, UT-Dallas.
Ended up with two bachelor's degrees and an MA in Aesthetic Studies (art history by
another name)..
I am an artist. A teacher for the last 25 years.
Sadly, I lost Dean Armstrong, my husband of 55 years and a GHS grad too, in July 2025.
We have 2 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, 2 grandchi...Expand for more
ldren.
It's been a "long, strange trip", but fun and good.
Workplace
I find this section very difficult to navigate.
I taught in two colleges, and I spent 12 years as a retail book buyer. I also did free lance theater design work, still do. I am a member of Dean's Dallas Makeup Crewe. We are body painting and moulage makeup artists with Dean Armstrong as our lead.
Dean retired after 23 years from the Theater and Humanities departments at El Centro College. He continued to act in theater productions and teaches part-time.
I stopped teaching, adjunct faculty staff at El Centro College, about 3 years ago.
I am still a working artist - painting, sculpture, wire drawings, and most recently various artwork in non-traditional materials especially crochet.
