Barrie's Story
Life
After high school...Air force, 4 years, graduated SUNE New Paltz in 1960. Got married, and had 4 children.Taught art in NYC, Schenectady, and moved to Philadelphia in 1968, where I taught art until I retired in 1993.I also imported and sold sterling silver jewelry from Mexico until December 05.
I was divorced in 1998 and was in a very committed relationship with Beverly Feldmar for over 10 years. Bev passed away after a long fight with breast cancer, which came back after 22 years in remission, in January 2009, and I truly miss her. Bev and I moved from Philadelphia when she retired from teaching in 2003, to live in Sarasota, Fl (also known as Paradise.)
I have begun to paint again and enjoy reading, biking, eating, cruising and my grandkids, which now number five.
I had a significant other, Ruth,, from 2011 until her death in September 2019 from cancer. She lived in Boca Raton,...Expand for more
Fl and we commuted back and forth.
Military
I entered the Air Force on October of 1952, and took basic training at Sampson Air Force Base. From there I went to Chanute AFB, Ill., for instrument trainer instructor (the old Link Trainer). Then onto Barksdale AFB in 1953 for a year...then to Sidi Slimane, French Morocco (1955-56).I finished my 4 years at Westover AFB, working the desk at Base Operations.
I was able to locate my flight's photograph from the web (flt2864) from Basic Training and was happy to see all those familiar faces again.
I can remember some great times in the Air Force...especially in Morocco where we spent time on the beaches in Rabat, meeting families, and traveling to all those exotic places, such Meknez, Fez, Tangiers, and ,yes, Larache. My one regret is that I was not adventurous enough to try the local cuisine. Now we pay big bucks when we go to a Moroccan Restaurant.
