Barry's Story
Life
Business travel keeps me literally all over the U.S. on short notice... So I relax by spending weekends, long weekends when I can, at my Lake Home near Pinehurst, NC. My home at Woodlake is built over the water with a view of the signature hole of our Championship 'Maples' Golf Course. Woodlake is a gated golf/lake community with 2 Championship golf courses and a wonderful 1400 acre recreational lake. Work hard/Play hard. Hard work reaps great dividends.
Workplace
After High School I worked as a Printing Pressman while attending Jeff State Jr. College, and then Birmingham Southern College where I received a B.A. in Accounting. I went into Printing and Office Supply sales for a few years before going into Law Enforcement. I started briefly as a police officer in Montgomery, then left and worked as a Police Officer for the City of Auburn.... no easy task for a die hard Bama Fan... Never could pull for the Orange & Blue, but I did love the people and my few years in the 'Loveliest Village of the Plains'. Then it was back to Jefferson County where I worked for a year as a police office for the City of Mountain Brook before accepting a position as Deputy United States Marshal in Kansas City, Kansas. After only one year in Kansas City I was accepted in the FBI Academy in Quantico where I continued my Law Enforcement training and was eventually assigned as a Special Agent with the FBI's Charlotte Division in the Raleigh, NC Resident Office. During my 6 years as a Special Agent in Central/Eastern Nor...Expand for more
th Carolina I had the privilege of working a variety of cases ranging from Bank Roberies to Foreign Counter Intelligence. I was also fortunat to be a member of the Charlotte FBI SWAT Team where I was a member of the Assult Team for 2 years, then a Sniper during my last 3 years with the Bureau. I left the FBI in 1989 to accept a position as Security Director for U.S and the America's at Glaxo Pharmaceuticals. I have remained at Glaxo, then GlaxoWellcome, and now GlaxoSmithKline for the past 19 years.... and with the latest merger (GlaxoWellcome and SmithKlineBeecham) I began development and currently lead the Ethics & Compliance Department for the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean. It is my responsibility to make sure that individual employees and GSK as a Corporation does the right thing... both within Government guidelines and within GSK Policies and Procedures. I'm proud to be a part of a Corporation that is responsible for making sure we take the high road, and do things right. I continue to maintain contacts with my friends in the FBI as well as with the FDA's Office of Criminal Investigations...and enjoy opportunities to work with them on a regular basis. In 2005 I had an opportunity to serve Federal Law Enforcement yet again; but pulled my name from contintion only a day before being appointed THE United States Marshal for the Middle District of North Carolina by President Bush. I expect to spend the nest 3 to 6 years at GSK before moving on to another career, and spending more time at my Lake House.
