Barry's Story
I left Wharton my senior year and moved to Houston, I was an assistant manager of a Mr. Gatti¿s pizza restaurant before going into the Coast Guard. While in the Coast Guard I was stationed on a High Endurance Cutter that was based in New York so I pretty much lived in Manhattan when we were in port. Had a view of the World Trade Center and Statue of Liberty every morning. The Cutter I was on (The Dallas) served as the on-scene command for the search and rescue operation following the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. For her service during this operation, the Dallas received the Coast Guard¿s Meritorious Unit Commendation.
After serving 4 years in the Coast Guard I returned to Houston briefly before moving to Florida where I got a degree in electronics and began working for Motorola I then left Motorola to return to Texas to accept my current job as a Field Service engineer for a semiconductor company I'm currently working at Texas instruments where I troubleshoot, perform service and maintenance on Ion Implanters. Don't have the greatest shift working Wednesday through Friday night 7PM - 7AM and every other Saturday but it pays well : )
I've had two near death experiences In 1997 I was involved in a head on collision on HWY 290 while driving from Houston to Austin and somebody crossed the center line and into my lane. I was life-flighted to Hermann hospital and afte...Expand for more
r a brief stay in the ICU where I had excellent medical care I was able to pull through. I pretty much broke all the bones in my left arm cracked my hips etc. Then in 2003 while troubleshooting a power supply on an Ion Implanter at T.I. I was hit with 25K volts of electricity that went into my right foot, across my chest and then back across and back out my right foot, the ordeal lasted about 25 seconds and luckily for me a door that wasn't leveled properly began to swing closed and got close enough to my body that the current left as the door provided a better ground than I did.
I currently live outside Dallas with my girlfriend and two golden retrievers (Cooper and Sadie). I still love music, I'm a huge fan of the progressive rock band Dream Theater who are without question the most talented musicians I've ever seen live. I'm also a big Dave Matthews fan and never miss Trans Siberian Orchestra when they come to town every Winter around Christmas. I think that is something everybod should see at least once they having an amazing light show.
I've never been married, I was engaged once but broke it off when she developed a serious addiction to pain pills
My father passed away (cancer) in 2003. I haven't seen my brother (Greg) in many years he's kind off doing his own thing and my mom is retired and lives in New Braunfels. So that should pretty much catch you up with me.
