Beau's Story

Life I decided to join the Navy and traveled around the world a bit. Have been to some very beautiful places and some that were not so great. I was fortunate in many ways to be in the right place at the right time and although I have dealt with some tragedy in my time, I would do it all over again if I had to. I met my wife Samantha while stationed in Guantanamo Bay Cuba. We married in 1986 and we have 3 wonderful Children. Kimberly, Amanda, and Benjamin. My wife and I are both avid bowlers and look forward to every league night and tournament that we can participate in. If you would like to get in touch with me, I have my email address posted at the mcc83 web site Military I loved it and I hated it, but I would do it all over again and then some. From Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and serving on board the Battle Frigate From Hell USS Vreeland FF1068, while although it wasn’t all good, it was not all that bad either. I will never forget the friends I made, and the 4 to 6 miles I had to run everyday while stationed in GTMO. Fighting the “teeth” and all the blasted mosquitoes, there was not enough bug juice in the world to get rid of them. (You have to be there and experience teeth to know what and how vicious teeth are) The numerous Banana Rats that stunk up the place, the land Crabs in your boots and Tarantulas and...Expand for more
bats at night which I do not miss at all. The 24 hour DEFEX which we turned into our own little war game, and party around the compound of NavSta Ordnance. Being a GMG sure had its advantages that's for sure, All the blank ammo you could shoot and then some. Cleaning all those weapons afterwards was a real pain but all the liquor afterwards made up for it. Who could ever forget getting to meet those beautiful ladies from the Miss America Pageant during a USO show and being lucky enough meet and getting to know 1986 Miss Nevada. (Sonja Nall). Last but not least, Life in the Dungeon, I could explain it, but you have to live it to understand it. Even though I was on the USS Vreeland for just a year and a few months. I made friends I will never forget and I will appreciate them for the rest of my life. I managed to skate out of REFTRA while in GTMO and managed to get my shipmates to take my duty and watches so that I could spend time with my wife who was still stationed in GTMO. I think I was the only one on that ship to get over night liberties every single night we were in port there. I will never forget my last day in the Navy, as I walked off the Vreeland for the very last time, I turned around and took a long look at her and knew there was something about that ship that I was going to miss the rest of my life.
