Ben's Story
Ben Gilliam is the Managing Principal and partner of a New York hedge fund commercial and investment real estate company in San Francisco, CA and Denver, Colorado. Gilliam partnered with the hedge fund in 2013 to start the company and in 2015 the company exceeded $7 billion in transactions and was named the best new commercial real estate firm by CoBiz Magazine in 2015.
Previously he was the Managing Director at Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, a Cantor Fitzgerald company.
Prior to his association with Newmark, Mr. Gilliam spent 6 years at Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate Services, Inc, most recently as President for the region based in Denver, Colorado. Gilliam served on the Coldwell Banker Commercial Global Advisory Board in New York. He joined Coldwell Banker Commercial in 2001 and succeeded Greg Coleman. He and Coleman also controlled the 18 Office Building portfolio known as Harrison Street Partners, Inc. Both are proud of their San Luis Valley heritage.
In 1992 Gilliam bought his first Gold's Gym and started a nationally known Sports Nutrition brand based in Los Angeles that he sold in 2000. That company is now franchised in over 200 locations. During those years he was an accomplished bodybuilder and participated in and sponsored numerous bodybuilding shows. Additionally he became an investor in key fitness enterprises including a exercise equipment company and a clothing and fitness gear manufacturing company.

the University of Colorado in Boulder and Colorado Springs and received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration (Finance) in 1982. He earned an MBA in Strategic Management in 2013, graduating with honors from Regis University in Denver, CO.
He served as one of the original committee members to create the University of Colorado MBA Real Estate Center of Excellence curriculum and has dedicated extensive time to the CU Legislative Council.
A fervent supporter of CU, he ran a successful political campaign for Bob Caldwell for CU Regent. He is a firm believer in community service and has served at various times on the CU Legislative Committee, YMCA Youth Leadership Council, Junior Achievement Project Business, Colorado Republicans Central Committee, Young Republicans, NAIOP Legislative Committee, the America-Israel Friendship League Board of Directors, American Cancer Society Co-Chair Business Crusade, National Physique Committee, World Trade Center Real Estate Committee and others. He participated as a scholar in the Center for the Study of the Presidency program in Washington D.C. and is a Leadership 2000 Graduate.
His sixth generation Colorado family still maintains a ranch in Colorado as well as family property in Savannah, GA. He has traveled extensively through the Middle East and Europe and speaks Hebrew and Arabic. He is an avid weightlifter and enjoys skiing, golfing and deep-sea fishing, particularly in Maui with his large family.
