Ben's Story
Life
After high school I moved with my parents to Tampa, FL.
I went to college in western Tennessee. After completing nearly three degrees, I moved east to Knoxville, TN, where I have been working on IT-related government contracts for past 3 years.
College
While in college, I studied Bible and Philosophy. I took classes according to two tracks, Missions and Ministry, and also took many classes in Biblical Languages (Greek and Hebrew).
As far as Philosophy goes, I focused on understanding relativism and pluralism as it relates to religion and society. In addition to social philosophy, I studied how different ethical models affect popular thinking.
During my last year in college, I wrote an honors thesis on Russian religious philosophy, entitled: "God's Ward: Solzhenitsyn on Suffering." The thesis primarily focused on Tolstoy's influence upon Solzhenitsyn.
While at college, I traveled extensively. During my junior year, I conducted an independent research project to discover Yiddish culture in Germany and Poland. My project...Expand for more
focused on Yiddish burial inscriptions in Jewish cities like Warsaw.
My trips also included several Mission trips to places including Oxford, UK; Moscow, Russia; and midwest Russia.
Workplace
One of the things I did during my senior year in high school at FCAHS was an independent study class on Internet Development. With the help of Mr Siar, another student named Travis Aiken and I built a small website on Alternative Energy Forms.
Nearly a year later (1999) I continued web development working on other small sites and new media contracts. I focused on learning middleware platforms like ASP and Cold Fusion while beginning to understand databases through the use of MS Access and SQL Server.
While at college (2001-2002) I developed websites for the school and continued to learn about programming and internet development. During the summers I developed database applications for several medium size clients while adding e-commerce solutions to my experience.
Since college I have been working for the US Government as a contractor.
