Ben's Story
Life
After leaving Kentwood, moved to Alaska for a bit then back to Kentwood, then in '85 my dad sent me to an all boys, private, catholic school in Vancouver. After graduation, I moved to Whistler, travelled a little bit, went back to University in '89. Worked as a Ski Patroller and in the seafood industry for 10 years. Lived in Vancouver for years enjoying the city life, had a VW van that took me on a thousand road trips from BC to Mexico (ahhhh the good old days), Finally, met the one (Crystal, from Kelowna, studied Respriatory Therapy in Toronto), we have been together since '97 and I am truly in love with her (yes, that's a Lionel Richie song) and I can't wait to grow old and senile with her.
In 2000, I took a "real" job in Bella Bella, BC as a seafood Plant Manager on a First Nations reservation north of Vancouver Island, this was one of my life turning points, bought a sailboat (never do that again), rescue a little puppy who would end up very large, and part of our family... Moved to Tofino, BC in 2001 to work for an salmon aquaculture company to manage their processing division, had our first child, bought our first house, Crystal's mother and aunt move...Expand for more
d in for a year (never do that again....), finally they moved next door... In 2005, I took a job in Port Alberni BC, mainly for the family and a new challenge. Port Alberni has everything a young family needs (even has a Walmart!). We own a great house on a cul-de-sac with a perfect yard. We had our second child in Nov. 2005.
In 2007, had our 20th high school reunion and the next day, I stuck my head inside a machine at work and got my neck "stuck". I was stragulated and as I died I remember fading to black, no white light, no pearly gates... looks like I will be seeing a couple of you in HELL. Co-workers/friends eventually rescued me, flown by medicvac to Vancouver, had brain surgery, and happy to be alive.
Currently, I am a father first, that is my passion. Secondly, I am a Plant Manager in the food processing industry, our company makes smoked salmon and seafood products. I am very happy, but a little disapointed that I never broke 165 lbs body weight, however I do not have a beer belly nor a flock of grey (gray) hair. My future goals are to raise wonderful children, grow my relationship with Crystal, and make more money so our family can travel more!
