Bernadette's Story
Life
Well, like most of us, at 52, life is interesting. I am currently teaching Culinary Arts at Wilbur Cross High School, in New Haven, CT. I have been teaching for 13 years now. Plan to work 10-11 more. Remember when Retirement was something we laughed at?
I graduated from Quenns College in '76, moved to CT and the rest is history. I am finishing my MAT at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. Teachers are always going to school but, no Administrative Degree for me.I love teaching so I'll stay with it.
God blessed me with 3 wonderful children. They are my pride and joy. My daughter, Helene, is Manager of the coffe bar at Nordstrom's, in Menlo Park, NJ. She lives in Union. My older son, Jonathan, lives in Milford, CT. He is in Investments. He lives with his girlfriend, Sarah, and are only 15 min. away. My youngest, Steven, just finished his 1st year at Harvard Law School. He is top of his class. He is getting married Aug. 26 to a wonderful young woman, Sarah Van Doel, from Avon,IN. The wedding is in Indianapolis so, we will be heading there soon! They met at Temple University. She is working on her Master's in Ethnomusicology at Tuft's. They live in Arlington, MA.
I haven't had the charmed life I hoped for, years ago. After 18 years...Expand for more
of marriage, I found myself faced with divorce. It was hard to just manage for a few years. Glad to report I survived.
I have a terrific boyfriend now. His name is Peter Keveney and he also lives in Hamden. He is a short-order cook. Life is good and extra bonus, my kids really like him. We'll see what the future holds??????
I have become a cat person. I just love them! After years of dogs, cats, rabbits, guines pigs, hamsters, fish, frogs and turtles, I am happy with my cat, Dash.
My busy lifestyle suits the cat just fine.
Besides teaching, I have also been tutoring at Sylvan Learning Center. This is my 7th year and I enjoy helping the students reach their goals. I feel like I'm giving back to the community.
I lost my brother, Jimmy, last year. Both of my sisters are ill. My sister, Ruth, who was a year ahead of us, is waiting for a liver transplant. It has been going on for a few years now. She has good days and not so good ones. My older sister, Mary Ann, who graduated from St. Agnes in 1960, is ill right now and still doesn't have a definitive diagnosis. I know I'm aging because dealing with illness in siblings was something I never considered. Reality stinks!
