Bernard/Bernie's Story
Life
My clan and I live in Saugus, MA, A.K.A. the North Shore of Boston. In the last 6 years my wife Donna (We've been married since July '98) has produced 2 future hall-of-famers, Kurtis Mitchell (01/18/2002) and Tyler Francis (10/17/2004). Did as predicted in the senior breakfast program and dropped out of college. However I've lost touch with Jimmy Sudakow (I hear he's big in the LA club scene as an electric violinist). Despite no degree and slightly crazy hours, I'm able to spend a lot of quality time with my family and make a decent living in retail sales and operation/store management. We have a small, but nice house with a big yard and are pretty happy. Plus if I stayed in school, I was striving to be a teacher, and all though Mrs. Barton, Mr. Meyers, Mr. Bodin, and Ms. Harding just to name a mere few of the many teachers that other than my family were probably the biggest influences on my life, they are the most underpaid/under appreciated professionals along with emergency room doctors, cops, etc, that are out there. Workplace
Started working retail while at Marina and I've been doing it since. I'm currently an Assistant Store Manager at a huge Barnes & Noble in Burlington, MA (A 'burb of greater Boston) after doing a decent stint as the General Manager for the Borders Superstore in Cambridge. I worked on and off for 10 for Home Depot. First a few years in HB where Zody's used to be and there is now an Expo, then opened several brand new stores in multiple markets of Oregon and New England as a department supervisor. I worked a couple years or so with Best Buy as both a sales and operations manager, and jumped around to a few companies and back before settling in as books and media/entertainment products as my niche.
If I didn't wuss-out after the cirumstances of being in a spat with my mother and moving out suddenly on my own, dropping out of school, working multiple jobs instead of one and going back to school, who knows where I'd be professionally right now; but I wouldn't trade it for the family I have now due to the path I took.
